2004 S80 2.5T AWD

Listed in Canadian Dollars.

Work done so far:
- Upgraded failed BCM module to Xemodex module -$500
- Replaced ABS sensor components - $160 installed by mechanic
- Replaced rear brake calipers, rotors, discs - $800 (installed by mechanic but I got ripped off... lesson learned).
- Replaced front right wheel hub assembly - $120 (same mechanic as above ripping me off)
- Fixed ETM connector plug - $20 (thank you Mike aka precopster & jimmy57)
- Installed K&N air filter - $60
- Replaced fuel filter - $15
- Replaced cabin filter - $20
- ATF drain & fill (being very careful as the car has 95k miles/153k km, only doing 2 litres/2.1 quarts at a time every 1000km or so) - $20 so far
- Seafoam treatment (intake and fuel only - crankcase soon) - $33

Current issues and the near future:
- Both rear wheel hub assemblies need replacing, probably gonna cost about $200 parts and labour
- Buying a used pump motor for the ABS system as I get the warning light sometimes and scan tool says its the pump motor... found it for $60
- Wash, wax & rust protection... winter is coming! around $200
- Winter tires
- Replace cracked booster vacuum switch - $125 off FCP unless I can find cheaper... which I can't

- Steering wheel lets out a little squeak when turning to the left.
- Small evap leak

- Funnels & oil pan - $20
- Wiper blades - $30
- K&N Oil filter (2) & locking fuel cap - $45
- Oil filter wrench thing - $10
- Jack and car stands - $40

Got the car professionally detailed for a very good price of $115. Also got some new windshield wipers... almost ready for winter.
Ordered 2 rear wheel bearings and a clay bar for $200 off Amazon.

CEL P0442 Small Evap Leak has not returned since I replaced the fuel cap. After closer inspection, I realized that the inner ring inside the cap was cracked and this may have caused the code. Glad I don't have to replace my j-hose just yet!

- Installed new wheel hub bearings. It was a huge PITA. Don't ever buy these from Amazon or you're in for a hard time.
- Put an entire bottle of Seafoam in the crankcase and performed an oil change with full synthetic + new oil filter.
- Installed a Manual Boost Controller. Keeping the setting low until I install a boost gauge... loving the extra boost

To-do list
- Rust protection
- Buy winter tires
- ATF drain and fill
- Install a boost gauge
- Going to start replacing vacuum hoses with silicone as I am now obtaining higher levels of boost.

Nov 12
- As of today, the car has 155,000km.
- Ordered NGK Iridium spark plugs off Amazon (used MVS link obviously), should be here by Monday. CAD$65 which is kind of pricey, but they were cheaper to order online then to buy them locally. Once they are replaced I will officially be at stage 0!
- Also ordered 7 ft long 4mm silicone vacuum hose for $7.
- Got an error code p0234 which is Turbo Overboost Condition. I guess the setting on my MBC was too high. I lowered it significantly and cleared the code. Definitely need to install a boost gauge soon.

This weekend
- Purchasing Michelin x-Ice xi3 winter tires from Costco.
- Car wash, clay bar, and wax application.
- Krown rust protection - full treatment.

To-do
- Replace spark plugs once they arrive.
- Replace vaccum lines with silicone once it arrives.
- ATF drain and fill (really gotta stop procrastinating on this).
- Find and order a boost gauage.

The only task I was able to complete since my last update was the replacement of the spark plugs. The OEM Volvo spark plugs were suprisingly still installed in the car, which means that they were almost 12 years and 156,000km (almost 97k miles) old. Not bad! Replaced them with new NGK Iridium's. A much smoother idle was immediately noticed, among other things. Very happy with the results!

December 11 157,000km
- Winter tires were installed as of December 1st. Got a used set of Toyo G-02 Observe Plus for $320 including installation.
- I have decided to remove the MBC once my silicone vacuum hoses arrive. At least until I get a boost gauge.
- I realized that the rust protectant I applied last year is good for another 6 months, so no need for that this year.

To-Do
- ATF drain and fill
- Clay bar treatment and wax application
- Still waiting on the silicone vacuum hoses I ordered in Novemeber...

Been awhile since I posted in my journal!

Stuff that's happened

Currently at 161,000km as of this morning.
Finally got around to using a clay bar, car looks great! (at least until winter showed up).
Got into a minor accident in December and had to replace some power steering hoses to fix a leak. On the bright side, there was no need for a fluid flush!
I currently have an exhaust leak. The pipe right after my cat has completely rusted and will need replacing/patching. However, after surveying the exhaust system, it's looking pretty rusty, and I've decided that I might as well take this opportunity to replace and upgrade some exhaust components.

Here's a picture of the exhaust system:

I'm thinking a 3" downpipe, followed by the stock cat [5] and then a straight pipe to the back muffler [15]. The middle resonator/muffler [10] is quite rusty, so I was thinking of taking it out.

I'm hoping to get a nice sound, but I truly have no idea what it's going to sound like - kinda just hoping for the best.

To-do list

Oil change - probably going to do this tonight.
Exhaust upgrade - really excited for this.
Switch to all season tires once spring is here, which pretty much next week (hooray).
Allignment - will probably do this when I switch my tires.

Stuff that I've procrastinated on

Silicone vacuum hoses. The one's I ordered from Amazon didn't fit and looked kinda flimsy =(
ATF drain and fill... I really need to do this as it's long overdue. Tonight perhaps.

Some Updates

ATF drain & fill has finally been performed. Car is now shifting more smoothly and I have even seen an increase in fuel economy! I will perform another drain & fill in about 10k just as a precaution as this was the first time the ATF had ever been changed in this car (to my knowledge).
Oil change performed with full synthetic and new oil filter.
Went to an exhaust shop to see if I could get a custom downpipe made and the resonator deleted, but the guy refused to do anything... said the car was too difficult to work on. That was the first and last time I go see that guy, but at least he fixed my exhaust leak for free!

To-Do

Going to look into aftermarket exhaust upgrades - I particularly want a downpipe upgrade and a new cat converter.
Supposed to be getting a snow storm this week, so I'm holding off on changing the tires for now. Allignment needs to be done once tires are swapped.
There is a clunking noise coming from front-right side of the car when going over bumps. Need to inspect suspension system.
Order silicone vacuum lines.
