I'm old enough to remember when it jumped to $110-120/hr, and I thought that was astronomical, though that's only saying I'm twelve or older

$250 is astronomical IMHO. But i am not far away from that. In Rochester NY dealer is $192 per hour.
So that person paid $7800 for his warranty which covers him until 2030 or 60k...if i read it correctly he is at 52k now. So it is possible that F&I just bought themselves a nice trip to Disneyland.
To add to the above: i purchased extra warranty 3 times. 3 times I made fool out of myself trying to get them to cover stuff which elegedly they had to cover. With 3rd warranty i just terminated it early and got prorated money back. Never ever ever again I will buy any warranty unless it is manufacture provided bumper to bumper as new car without any stipulation.
Back to that customer. He likely paid 65k for that xc90+ now $7800(for possibly 8k miles and ton of "we don't cover that since salt, wear and tear, ocean salt..") 73k+taxes+fees+ intrest if financed..roughly 85k? I would discourage anyone from buying a new car like that. Better lease and then get yourself another lease if you are volvo, audi, mb, or other luxury brand fanatic.

Yeah, I don't think he means another 60k miles, that would be nuts. So the 8000 miles left is a real concern - he doesn't plan on keeping it past 60k? He's not going to drive it 8000 miles in 5 years?

It's gotta be 60k miles beyond what he's at now. Also, $7800 is a lot of money, very much money.

Not really. I am certain he means the next 60k miles not just 8k miles which is less than a service interval. That would make no sense.

On a pre-2020 XC90 even with a low mileage I have been told by a service manager not to touch them. A lot of the early issues have been improved by 2020.

At $250/hr (ouch - move up here it is ONLY $210 CDN/hour!!) it wouldn't take long over 60k miles on servicing alone to eat op $7800. In there there will be brake flushes, coolant flushes, spark plug changes, several oil and filter changes, brakes and more. Depends if the warranty covers service items I guess. If not it is then not as attractive.

A quote here for a 2007 C30 T5 turbo swap was about $3300 CDN. The car has also had a battery, MAF sensor ($500+ CDN), TB (about the same price), TCV, MPA sensor ($550), Intercooler ($600) all CDN. No fortunately we managed to swap parts with OEM supplier parts and good used ones for a small portion of that amount, but it just takes an AC compressor, turbo or likes to go out on these plastic filled engines and you could hit that number easily when the car reaches 110k miles.

I don't think it is as bad as all that. And no aftermarket never pay out warranty in sight!

Neil.
