Huge Project- But I need everyone's help!

I don't know if I dreamed it or what, but I had a brain storm sometime yesterday- either in my waking hours or dreaming hours- that is to cross-reference all Volvo fault codes with their generic P-Code equivalents and then to list with each, links to write-ups in our repair database or other threads that will help solve the fault code's issue. Anyway, I am forever grateful for Kelvin6 for posting up the DTC Library which can be found here: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/chat/p ... hp?t=10758

What I would like to do is list all of these codes- then as a step #1, begin listing next to them all of the P-Codes (generic codes) that go along with them. Step #2 would then be to list the links in our forum as to possible "fixes" for these codes.

It would be a huge undertaking and would require everyone here helping out and adding to the list.

The upside is that it will increase membership here like you wouldn't believe- and we wouldn't have to continually type the same answers to folks coming here for their issues- we could just direct them to the list specific to their trouble code and solution. I would say that if this is successful, it would be the first of its kind on the web, bar-none.

What does everyone think of this? Can you help out? It would be next to impossible for me to undertake this on my own, so I would need your help if we are to be successful with this.

As you probably know VADIS gives a conversion chart for most models but not all. It would be a starting point.

Great idea, MIJ. Get this to me in a speadsheet and I'll turn it into a dynamic database-driven page. Like the Repair Database, but better and more flexible. Moderators and I will be able to add repairs to any code, as they bubble up.

Ugh, this is going to be a huge project!

Matt., I'm not big on spread sheets, could you get one started (I'm thinking Excel?) At least with categories, etc.

I guess the next thing would be how we collaborate on this while it develops. Any ideas on this? Maybe MSN White Board, or maybe you could enable that type of "Chat" feature here, just for this project?

EDIT: I started a spread sheet...hope it is like the one you're thinking of Matt...so far I'm just getting codes and descriptions in separate columns...we can edit it later and make it better.

MIJ, I'm full up on projects with the MVS redesign. Anyone else good with Excel?

As for collaboration tools, I've used an few and found nothing beats email and instant messenger. I'll turn my IM on.
