Getting better performance from the MVS web server

Post by matthew1 »

Yesterday's spotty down time/login problems were the result of me having the MVS server administrator Mario to try to squeeze some gains from our server in terms of speed. Sorry if you experienced difficulty yesterday as a result of this work. I didn't realize it would be as long or as rough as it was. Next time I'll be prepared with messaging telling you there is planned downtime for maintenance. Yesterday during the work I couldn't get in to the system to post a message.

Anyway, here's some initial numbers showing the results at a test page called WebSitePulse:

Response time is what I'm using to measure the gains from this particular work, and you can see the change (these numbers are not averaged, just plucked as single examples... this would fail a statistics assignment).

I also have more scientifically valid response time reporting, like this screenshot from my Pingdom account:

Feel free to test MVS with these or other tools, and report your response time findings in this post.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!
