Toyota, 2012.

That "legendary reliability" hasn't been all that I expected...

Right? You'd think it would be the Chevy.

Camry - bad timing gear causing a rattle on start-up, then the timing tensioner failed (mechanic's fault?), constant transmission shifting problems (eventually torque converter was replaced, fine now), dash squeaks, and both front strut assemblies replaced under warranty. Under 20,000 miles on the car.

Cruze - bad AC expansion valve, water leak from misaligned bit of weatherstripping, and a bad front strut mount.

That reliability, Corolla, Camry, Celica, MR2, 4Runner, was lost somewhere after 1995 models. Not bad today, but nothing like in the past. The one that's still strong is the Yaris. Today models are also kind of cheap feeling. I would rather go with a Honda these days.

Had a Honda and a Toyota.

I'd say the reliability fell out from underneath them realistically somewhere around 2006-2008 for both brands. Toyota has never recovered, except for those cars like the Corolla and Tacoma that have been using the same antiqued technology for 10 years.

My mother has owned a 2007 Accord since new (actually came to my rescue quite a few times in the Volvo)...and it still has YET to have a problem with it.

Realistically, I would have liked a 2013 Accord instead, but Hondas use a CVT now, and I can't stand the things. And the Civic and Corolla are just plain boring.

1986 Honda CRX - now retired and rusting.
1991 Toyota MR2 turbo - Dad bought it in 1990, drove it till he wore the clutch and brakes down to the rivets. When he passed away, I decided to resurrect it and about $5k later it looks like new and is quite reliable.
