The term Headrest is a misnomer. It is a head restraint.
Whiplash occurs when the head and torso accelerates at different rates. This is what bends and harms the neck. A head restraint catches the head and keep the head and torso acceleration even and the two better aligned. Lowering the probability of Whiplash.
Anybody that raised chickens for meat knows about this.
