ykt3pg3: Are you running Vida 2014D in a virtual machine or native?

Mr Brain we might be over thinking this.
Well, maybe, maybe not...
I perused the files on the iso and researched more before attempting this install.

Go figure I forgot to pack the DiCE interface...so I can't test vehicle communication while I'm in Chicago for the next few weeks, but I don't expect a problem with that end.

It's running on Windows 10 Home and IE11. Went green after the first try. Enter my cars VIN, press ok, everything that you can do without connecting it to the vehicle works A-OK.

Meddling with the OS edition in windows registry is not necessary. You can get the VIDA installer to ignore the OS and version (home, pro, enterprise, etc):

Unpack the iso to a folder on your internal drive. In the subfolder \Install\DVD\Vida_dvdheader\ edit the file compinfo.ini, toward the bottom delete these three lines:

(OS)
Win7SP=0
ErrorMess=The operating system on this computer is not supported. VIDA only supports Windows 7 Pro (32-bit and 64-bit versions).

Then set compatibility mode to Windows 7 for the following file: \Install\DVD\Vida_dvdheader\Main\Setup.exe

Follow your (RichHaleParker) instructions per your post at 19 Feb 2018, 13:21

Notes:
**Dotnet3.5 was already installed on my system, as was just about every other version of dotnet ever released. Didn't mess with any of it.
**Newer current version of Adobe also was present, the Russian version opted out/did not install over it.
**I previously installed group policy/editor. That is installed by default on PRO OS version. If you want it on the home version you have to fetch it from Microsoft. It might make a difference, or it might not.
**Windows 10 makes it so easy to stop Vida from launching at every startup--startup item in the Task Manager (right click on the taskbar)
**eupdate can be prevented from launching at startup by the following instruction: http://windowsvc.com/bbs/board.php?bo_t ... r_id=40278. It was at the last location mentioned in that article.
**VIDA and the browser don't seem to play well with FHD screen res and display scaling. Items and text get too small, hard to read, and not touch friendly. Zoom setting in the browser doesn't do much. Rectified by lowering screen res to something some ancient laptop would have used like XGA or SXGA.

SQL server still loads even with VIDA disabled in the startup items. I knew this would be the case. Impacts boot time by maybe a second and results in 3 additional running processes with 0 CPU utilization and 75mb of memory use (nothing to worry about, shouldn't impact gaming, battery life, etc).

Very Nice!!!

Is that worth maybe making a separate thread? ...How to get Vida installed and running native on Windows 10 home? Considering more laptops sold through retail channels will be preloaded with home instead of pro that might make a lot of people happy. Microsoft doesn't hand out that pro upgrade for free.

Thanks, I was hoping would try this and give some feed back on their experience.

I had no problems with that command in Win10P. Did you have a problem with it in Win10H or did you edit it as a precaution?

Then set compatibility mode to Windows 7 for the following file: \Install\DVD\Vida_dvdheader\Main\Setup.exe

Not necessary. Select 02/Vida.cmd, right click, edit then look at the last entry.

:gotPrivileges
setlocal & pushd .
cd /d %~dp0
if '%1'=='ELEV' (del "%vbsGetPrivileges%" 1>nul 2>nul & shift /1)

set __compat_layer=WIN7RTM
"Install\DVD\Vida_dvdheader\Main\setup.exe"

**Dotnet3.5 was already installed on my system, as was just about every other version of dotnet ever released. Didn't mess with any of it.

I said preinstall Dotnet3.5 as a precaution. Some Windows 10 installations have trouble finding the files. On mine I had to install it from the Insulation Media and the command line. Windows Programs and Features could not find the files.

That is yet another conflict between Vida and IE11. If your touches are imperfect, the view will resize and getting it back to correct when inside of Vida is almost impossible.
1. Set your resolution to FHD.
2. Go to the Vida login screen.
3. Hold down [Ctrl] and use the [-] [+] keys to readjust the view.
4. Login

As you don't as you don't use the touch screen you won't have this problem.
If you want to use the touch screen, do my Chrome conversion, it does not have this problem when using the touch screen.

I am thinking of writing some install instructions for Win7x and Win10x after I get some more feedback from venturous people. That is slow coming ... we must be members of an endangered species. ;-)

Some of the wonky touch screen behavior in IE that's responsible for issues with some web sites, and also possibly with VIDA, might be resolved by using the following custom CSS in accessibility options:
body { -ms-touch-action: manipulation; }
Try it and see if that makes a difference.

As of Firefox v57 (Quantum) Mozilla developers finally addressed proper touch interaction with websites and I stopped using IE for general web browsing. Prior versions of Firefox were unusable with a touch display as things like pinch zoom and right click equivalents would manipulate browser settings instead interacting with web sites.

I manipulated VIDA exclusively with the touch input and didn't see any issues. Adjusting ctrl +/- at the login screen doesn't seem to affect all areas, when I go into diagnostics everything is small again and manipulating the zoom level doesn't resize it. Some really old games and apps have issues with higher resolutions or display scaling. This version of VIDA would have been optimized to display on those Dell toughbooks that Volvo bundled with the genuine dice units that likely displayed at 1366x768. VIDA is a relatively limited use software product, software development isn't going to have the budget to optimize for every conceivable display res, much less in a newer technically unsupported browser. Changing the screen res to what plays nice while using VIDA I don't really consider an issue. Takes only a second :)

Tonight I tested Vida 2014D RePack on a machine which has Windows 10 Home.
I installed 2014D RePack per my instruction, posted Feb 19 2018, 13:21.
Vida 2014D RePack installed and ran on Windows 10 Home without any modifications.

So far I have confirmed Vida 2014D RePack installs and runs on Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Home and Windows 7 Pro without any modifications to the files in the iso. With the exception of the 2099 patch which does modify some of the files from the iso after they are installed.

Hi Rick, i'm using win7.
I used to install older versions with xp-pro3 without date expiry.
But then again the older one has this cfg file that lets you change the number of days before some sort of expiry

I did instal older versions 2012 on win7 running VM without issues
