I purchased this wagon from another Volvo enthusiast a few months ago with the intention of wrenching on it in my free time. That free time has been greatly reduced and I need the time and money for other things. I’ll repost the original ad and then additional info and work I did below:
“It has 195,490 miles on it but still drives well. The clutch does not slip and the transmission shifts smoothly through all of the gears. I bought the car about 6 years ago from a guy who had purchased it previously from JRL.
Good:
• Head Gasket replaced at about 150k. No issues since.
• Timing belt, tensioner, water pump, idler and serpentine belt done at the same time.
• Front left wheel bearing around the same time
• Steering rack from Rack Doctor replaced about 10k miles ago
• New radiator within last 15k miles
• Redline MTL in the transmission
• IPD front and rear sway bars
• 16" Meteors with Conti DWS (less than 15k miles)
• Spare set of 15" Antlias with Michelin X-Ice snow tires (at least one or two seasons left on them)
• 99 v70 seats in pretty good condition. Just a little wear on the driver seat bolster
• No delamination on any of the door panels
• Rear spoiler with built-in third brake light
• Rear cargo cover in excellent condition. I never installed it.
• Volvo 440 side markers
• VDO boost gauge
• Older Eclipse head unit with AUX
• PA inspection and emissions until 12/18
Bad:
• Fair amount of exterior cosmetic damage. The car has lived in Philadelphia and has been bumped, scraped, and bruised. Front left corner of the bumper is cracked and badly repaired.
• ABS and Tracs lights are on. Speedo works fine.
• Driver's door hinge is broken so it does not stop at the notches
• Oil leak, not terrible but not great either. Not exactly sure what it is, but I think it is the oil cooler lines.
• Small exhaust leak. The exhaust on this car has been repaired many times. This may need some attention.
• Sometimes clunks when putting the car in first after coming to a stop. This is a common issue with the m56 transmissions caused by slack somewhere in the driveline.
• Intermittent issues with the interior map light switches.
• Broken trim piece on rear passenger seat

What I’ve done:
The oil leak was the hose which comes up from the breather box to port between cylinder 2 and 3 (replaced all hoses and breather box with blue box Volvo parts) and a desiccated oil filler cap seal (replaced with Viton). New plugs, air filter and fuel filter. The driver’s door has been replaced along with the master switches which were beat. Center console armrest has been recovered. Steering wheel has significant wear, I have a replacement ready to go in. The center console and center dash stack trim are different shades of wood grain, I bought 3M brushed aluminum wrap to cover, I’ll include it if you want it. Broken rear passenger seat back was replaced, seat bottoms have a few rough spots. The ABS module seems good, I’m thinking it may either be a bad wheel sensor or sensor / ring just needs a good cleaning (The underside of the car was filthy from city life and the oil leak, spent a lot of time cleaning that up). The body needs a good detailing. Front right quarter panel and front / rear bumpers have damage and were repainted poorly, really need to be replaced. I have a can of 426 Mystic Silver paint I can include. Exhaust looks about what you would expect for a car of this age, have a stainless OBX downpipe to go in. Other than that it could use some replacement hoses under the hood, some of the rubber is starting to dry out. I removed the pillar mounted VDO gauge and replaced the hacked up plastic trim. My plan was to install an P2 style IPD pod gauge on the dash (Included if you want it).
I’ve got about $1400 into the car at this point, I’d like to get something close to that, but I'm open to negotiating. PM or email at troy(dot)[email protected] with any questions.
