BUMP.

This tool will be heading out again this coming week, and there's no longer a queue so the first person to PM me will be first in line once I receive it back from the next fellow. Typical turnaround time has been 2 - 3 weeks per person.

I think the tally of folks who have borrowed the tool so far is over 10 and it still looks and functions good as new.

A quick note: Health stuff has prevented me from frequenting the board as much as I used to, but if you PM me I will reply as soon as I can and ship the tool out at the earliest opportunity.

Cheers

Ryan

If anyone can't wait for the loaner tool to be available, it is available at Tasca (according to their website):

http://www.tascaparts.com/parts/index.cfm?searchText=9995497&make=Volvo&action=oePartSearch&siteid=213668

$91 to save you several hours sounds like a pretty good deal. I personally have never had to replace the delta links before, but I am slightly terrified of the job.

If only all of the Volvo tools were available for rental from some central source...

2016 XC60, osmium grey / off-black

1978 242, lots and lots of work to get a reliable daily
1998 V70 XC, Almost done replacing everything, then I sold it

FYSA, its not available at Tasca. Or Turner Volvo. Or Erie or Borton or FCP or ipd or Portland, or any of the online storefronts for Volvo dealer parts counters (alloemvolvoparts, etc). They might have it listed, but none of them carry it. At least, they didn't back in December / January of '11-'12 when I was searching for this damn thing.

The only place I could find this tool on was Kent-Moore (handsontools.com) and that was after mucking about with SPX / OTC.

http://www.handsontools.com/search.asp? ... &search=GO

It ended up costing a bit more than $125 after shipping and tax was handled.

Hope that helps. In the FWIW category, the tool is currently on loan and there's nobody in line for it at this time.

Well folks, all good things must end, some day.

It appears this tool has "walked" on me. The last recipient is no longer responding to emails, and the phone number I found after many countless minutes of Googling has been disconnected. I'm thinking this individual had more problems than just not returning a tool, so I'm not going to drive out there and try to shake him down.

"auser" if you're out there, I'd really like the tool back. I'll even pay for shipping.

I'll update this thread by editing the first post. I'll also reply to all of the PM's I have in my inbox regarding this.

If I ever get it back, you all will be the first to know.

Thanks

Ryan

Ryan, thanks for making the tool available to us. It's a shame that it walked, but I'm sure those that borrowed it are forever grateful. You did a great thing!

It is Volvo Service mafia coming down on us, is it?

Believe it or not, of all the folks to whom I've loaned this tool, this person was the last on earth that I expected to walk off with it. I've "known" him (on the internets) since the early days of the SwedishBricks mailing list and the start of the Brickboard, and he's always been a stand up guy.

Like I said, I don't want to wring this out of his hide or slander his good name so I'm not going to name names, I just genuinely hope he's OK. When last we spoke he was going through some rough times personally, and it's pretty uncharacteristic of him to fall off the face of the earth like this.

Anyhow, if it happens to find its way back into my garage, I'll ask Matt to start this thread up again.

Cheers all and happy rolling

Ryan

I would say forgive the person, and look ahead Ryan.

Is there a precedent for contributing to restore/replace.
I believe it served folks at MVS.
Would it make sense to reach out to the good character of MVS for a small donation to offset the cost of replacement. Perhaps a call for vote to introduce a community responsibility.

Oh no, I'm not looking for any type of contributions. Throughout my life, I've accrued what some may consider a very large Karma deficit (if you believe in that sort of thing). The tool has already paid itself off ten times over in Karma, and saving me a few quid on my own repair. I consider that more than breaking even, and am not torn up about losing the tool. I just know that there are about 5 people on this board who were in line for it when it walked, and I feel for them more than anything. Now they're going to have to borrow a Chevy Tahoe, a blow-torch and a come-a-long to do the job... and I mean that respectfully, not trying to ding the person who MacGyver'd his bushings out that way.

I was reading the breakthrough write up on delta link replacement by Lee, and the responses from some of the very best here at MVS. It was this tool Ryan, I believe, made this task less punitive and joyful for many DIYers.

What would it take to restore For Loan service, and you continue this fabulous work at MVS? What can we learn from Matty Moo's ABS service about Controls, in addition to the workings of an honor system.
