replacing headlights on 2002 S40
anybody know how to replace the headlight on a 2002 s40? do I need to replace the whole headlight assembly? or is it just a bulb that I need to replace and if so how do I get it out?
Does this have single or twin lights? My 1999 V40 was the older, single headlamp style. Swapping the bulb was pretty simple - speaking from memory as I no longer have the car:rsy236 wrote:anybody know how to replace the headlight on a 2002 s40? do I need to replace the whole headlight assembly? or is it just a bulb that I need to replace and if so how do I get it out?
Make a careful note of the steps so that you can do them in reverse!
1) Lift the toggle on the flat horizontal cover over the headlamp region and lift off the cover.
2) There is a large vertical circular cap (3-4 inches diameter) on the back of the headlamp assembly. This needs about a quarter of a turn anti-clockwise and it comes off.
3) The back of the bulb with the wiring connector should now be visible. Gently pull off the connector.
4) There is a spring clip holding the bulb in place, I can't remember exactly how it is released, just squeeze, I think.
5) The bulb should now drop out, replacement is the reverse of the above. On my car the circular cap had the word 'top' moulded in to show which way up it should go.
There is a Haynes manual for the S/V40 - I don't know if it covers your model.
Hope this helps
