I bought a 2000 V40 1.9 t. So far the car is great I put about 2k on the only issue is the sun roof is noisy and leaks a little in a brushless car wash. I took it to Volvo and they said I can get it adjusted. The eng. mounts were replaced before I purchased it so i wont have this issue. Car had 60k on it and was lease from the south so it was in excellent shape.

How is the car in the snow????? I live in Ma. needless to say we can get some snow in the winter. Also the radio is not the best any suggestions Thanks great site lots of good info

I had a V40 2.0T for a few years - loved the car until it started letting me down at only 140k.

Anyway, I didn't have a lot of experience in the snow (we don't get much round here) but it seemed no better or worse than other FWD cars. I couldn't get up my driveway (until I put straw down) or out of the village one year (we live in a hilly spot).

I was recommended to get snow chains or snow tyres by a Swedish guy I met who had a similar car - he said that would be all I needed.

I have a 2000 S40 1.9t with the winter package. The car has DSA, basically traction control. The button is inbetween the seat heaters. I went to Lake Tahoe Nevada during a BAD snow storm and was required to put on chains. When in the city I removed them and the car drove fine (had mud and snow tires.) It's not 4wd but REALLY works well. While doing about 40 mph, I hit a patch of black ice on a back road, I noticed it slipping but the system worked, the orange triagle warning me of low traction flashed and the car immediately stabilized! I was very impressed! All 4 passengers just sat in awww and there was a wierd moment of silence. The car was fine, we were just shocked. I will never get a car without this feature. I also had to drive though roads not plowed and it made it right through. At first the tires may slip for a sec, but once the traction control kicks in you are fine. There were people in civics and corollas just starring as I drove through 3 to 4 inches of fresh snow.

Took my s40 to the Aussie snowfields this year. In the afternoon, I couldn't unlock the car - the key just wouldn't turn. It was about minus 2 or 3 celcius.
Fortunately I managed to crawl thru the boot coz the back seat wasn't locked into position, but if it was we would've been completely locked out of the car. Not nice when the family is cold, hungry and tired!
