Happy Thanksgiving all! I need advice! My 2001 S40's radio died suddenly on Monday while I was driving! Just stopped out of the blue. Took it to dealership and they checked fuse and took unit out to check for debris, coins, etc. Nothing. After I left the dealership, overhead light didn't work, vanity light didn't work, clock went to 12:00, trip odometer went to 0. Brought it BACK in next day and they say radio is dead, need a new unit ($375) and battery is dying - that's why the other electrical stuff is happening. Do car radios just DIE?? Sound fishy to anyone? I am at a loss! HELP!! Thanks for any input!!

Nearly-dead batteries can cause many strange problems. I'd drive to a parts store, take the battery in, and have them check it with their machines. Or just get a new one if it's the original. Eliminates one variable right off.
No lights on the radio? No nothing?

Hi Matthew,
No lights, nothing on radio. Antenna stays down.
Do you think the low battery would cause that in a radio?

There's simply no telling. But it's the easiest thing to do (besides fuses, but you said those were already checked), and you should always work from easiest --> hardest when eliminating causes.
