Like the title says when I get into high RPM the Check engine light flashes and the car stutters, but no codes are registered. I recently replaced the vvt gear and timing belt and cam seals and did the timing. I've checked the timing multiple times and I'm wondering if this could be a separate issue. I just keep having tunnel vision and go to the timing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had similar issues with my '01 a few years ago at 150,000 miles or so.
Coils and coil wires.

1. The wires are difficult to inspect, and are usually just easier to replace.

2. Pull the coils and inspect very carefully - like with a magnifying glass.
My guess is that you'll find cracks and burn marks.

On mine, there was one coil that was cracked / burned.
I was able to get away with changing just the one coil and both wires. I probably should have done both coils, but money was tight at the time.

When this happened on my S70 I just did a full tune up. I did a full tune up on my V40 as well, didn't wait until it got bad, just prepped it for winter. It's cheap insurance on the 40 series compared to the 70.

I'd only replace the coils if they show damage or obvious sign of malfunction. Otherwise, probably wires and plugs.
