2001 V70XC - Rear shock bushing separating

Post by xHeart »

I'm keeping an eye on the rear suspension. The busing has started to separate from the shock.

The code on manufacturer's plate is C1. Would Sachs for shocks and Lesjofors HD coils be a good replacement for these Volvo originals?

Those bushings aren't mission critical for for andling. If you can get something in there to make the connection and the rear end is still damping well (bounces stop quickly) no reason to replace.

Just don't be this guy (2:00 in is best)

Is it a snapped spring on the photo?

With HD springs and 14 mm stabilizer bar the car will have too much body roll.

The spring appears fine, and damping well responsive and firm.

For spring there is also Suplex, $30 more. Lesjofors is available in without HD.

Some observation; there are plastic shields, two per side, that protects the shock lower and springs from splash. I don't know if you took them off prior to the photo. They seem to help keeping things off of rather fragile springs in our XC70's.

I recall something like that. Are these in the diagram – items 32, 36 and 54?

They are not bolt-on on 05+ and will eventually fall off on -04 on a long gravel trip, but they definitely protect rear lower arms and lower part of shocks/Nivomats.

I had them installed for couple of Trans-Taiga seasons, lost them in last trip, got a replacement, but never bothered installing them. They need custom locking/attachment scheme, but still totally worth the price.

54 (MY05-) or 32 (-04) you also need, they divert a lot of dirt from the rims.

vtl answered your question so I'll just add that replacing shock/springs on mine was much easier as result of those shields keeping joints and fasteners clean.

Undecided on spring, if Lesjofors HD is out then Suplex or $100 more for a Volvo pair.

I'm preparing to service rear suspension. What is your assessment of LESJOFORS https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... 70-4295842?
