seatbelt not pulling out...

Post by Mikele82 »

hello,
so today I sat down to drive and I can't pull the seatbelt more then half an inch to buckle up.
is this something that could be fixed or does it mean a replacement?
im also looking how to access the panel seatbelt post, how to take off the plastic cover, any info/Manuel data for that ?

the panel seatbelt post?

Yeah it looks like you're gonna get a replacement on ebay. taking it out is straightforward, you just gotta look at it and see what needs to be removed piece by piece. And for god sake, unplug your battery before removal.

Yeah, took it apart and its a non solver without breaking all the mechanics into pieces.
might have a go at it but will probably buy on Ebay. (dealer want 490$ for it)
ill take photos of B column assembly to share for future users and post here soon.

Dealer mentioned I need to access with vida to program the replacement part ?
why would that be ?

Not something I know. I sometimes get pas airbag off on my rear view (depending on the person). Not sure if it's just a sensor. All I can say is, a working seat belt is better than nothing. Plus, you got a 16 yr old car, one day it'll be better to just get rid of it. So just make sure you disconnect the battery before anything, and get a working seat belt for whoever is sitting.

There's no software in the seatbelt. However, there's a pyrotechnical belt tensioner which is triggered electrically.
There should not be need for programming anything. But do take good care (disconnect battery, wait 5 min), use Loctite and proper torque (Haynes says 48nm, 35 lbf ft), and dispose of the old tensioner safely (explosives).
Note that this is "not a job you should do unless trained and certified to work with explosives" etc.
If you can't unwind the replacement part enough to install, hold it exactly the way it would be oriented if installed. It's orientation sensitive so the belt would hold you when the car's upside down I suppose.
