Vibration on acceleration

Post by DeeSi »

'09 s60 2.5t. While on a short vacation we experienced a vibration on acceleration. Almost felt like a tire going flat but we stopped and checked but tires were fine(only about 5k on these tires). Roadway was wet and a/c was on. While coasting really didn't feel any vibration but would vibrate again on acceleration although the intensity would vary. My 1st thought was motor mounts. I will be jacking up and inspecting but haven't had a chance yet. This car has approx 136,000 on the odometer. Also, around town things felt fine but not much acceleration was going on. Any thoughts are appreciated.

On my 01 V70 2.4t, that same description turned out to be spark plugs. Ran fine driving normal, but would stutter under load. Never set a check engine light. My plugs had around 50,000 miles on them, new plugs and all was fine again. Not sure how my 01 engine compares to your 09 model.

What speed? Sounds like classic textbook CV shaft, most likely passenger side.

I'm with Blacklab on this one. Very likely a worn carrier bearing on the passenger side CV axle from the symptoms you are describing.

It is easier to post an incomplete investigation and make ppl guess?

Probably wiser to check the engine mounts first, then post.

Hi and thanks for the replies.

Plugs are new about 500 miles ago...Bosch FR7DPP+. Speed was about 60-70 or so and road wet to very wet and a/c on. Post was not meant to make people guess...was to get ideas of what else to look for. Like the rest of this summer(at least where i am) it has been about 95 degrees or raining heavily so time to actually get outside and work on cars is at a premium.

Thanks again
