Wow...a steep, switchbacked road from a wide open dry Wyoming valley (like, 100 mile wide valley) up to 8000', where there's a vast plateau with lush moose-y marshes and forests of conifers and aspens. And a lake up on top. And an ancient Native American stone medicine wheel on top of a mountain. Betty had to shift down and shift down to go 25-30 up these turns. Turned the A/C off, she was working! An amazing place. Wyoming Highway "Alt 14" from Lovell to Ranchester. And quite a bit of traffic, with long 5th wheel campers - around those hairpins? And a million Harleys on parade - they're heading west from Sturgis, which is happening this week I think. They're everywhere. Maybe heading to Yellowstone, I don't know.

One the east side coming down, we went through the burn scar from a huge fire last summer, Still black. All new signs and guardrails. And some amazing geology with signs telling you the name and era of that layer of rock. 350 million years, 400 million, mind boggling.

Also took some very pretty frontage roads / "the old highway" instead of Interstate, where it was 60-70 instead of 80 with semi's. Pretty country, farms, small towns I've never heard of. Fun. Picnic lunch on The Yellowstone River.

Today was one of those perfect sunny days, so I decided to give my Volvo a little love.
I rolled back the rain cover, and as always, the moment I start peeling it back, I get that little thrill—like unwrapping a present I’ve been looking forward to.

After the cover was off, i rolled down all windows, opened the sunroof and took the trusty long-nose elk out for a grocery run.

But here’s the real treat: When I pulled into the supermarket lot, there was a beautiful Volvo 850 Turbo parked right there! It was like seeing an old friend.
I had to stop and admire the 850 for a minute. There’s just something about Volvos that makes you feel like you’re part of a unique club.

Exciting news! I searched and found a pre-owned cargo cover for the Longnose elk for 58$! It'll arrive within the next two weeks.

Brodie is just back from his first big trip in the car. We have our grandchildren from London staying for the summer so we all ventured up to the highlands for a family gathering at my daughter's house. Brodie hadn't really done any car travelling except for a couple of short journeys locally and they didn't go down well. I've had his car crate in a room in the house which he's been encouraged to use when in that room and he eventually started to go in himself, but I was still apprehensive about a 4 hour journey with noisy grandchildren and a puppy. Brodie was reluctant to go into the crate in the car at first but once in and we were on the road there were a couple of whimpers then all went quiet. Just over an hour into the journey he started crying and I stopped to let him out to do his business. The timing was perfect and he did what he had to and we got back on the road without and problems. Just over 4 hours on the road and we arrived at my daughter's and Brodie was great.

The day before we headed north we had Storm Floris and lots of leaves were blown into the garden and Brodie had great fun chasing the leaves in the wind

Hiding under the couch was another favourite place. My daughter's cat has the couch in tatters, apparently the cat was brought up with dogs before my daughter rescued it but as soon as it saw Brodie it started hissing and spitting, so they were kept apart for the time being

Tried a whole load of those reset procedures for the service message over time not realizing that most of them would not work for my car. I went to the last page of that thread found the one last one in the thread worked. I didn't do every one from back to front in the thread but after a bunch didn't work I thought that I would cut to the chase.

I have done 2 of my 3 drain and fills of my transmission fluid. Going to do the last one after my 4 hour drive home in a couple weeks. First drain was for certain more brown than red. Second fill was less brown and more red.

Next up is replacing the fuel filter.

Had a buddy tell me there rear springs shattered on there 2011 xc70. Both sides broke into 4-5 pieces. They said the steering locked up on the highway and a bunch of suspension codes flew out. Car maybe off to valhalla at this rate given it has numerous other issues from dead ac, to broken tailgate locks, and a bit of oil burn. Tis a shame.

I use to say:
Every drive you and your loved ones (Volvo included!) come home unharmed and safe, was a successful drive.

Welcome home.
