XC70 - Will a 2008 side mirror fit a 2007 XC70

Post by Steve3186 »

Hi all. New member. I have a busted side mirror on my 2007 XC70. I haven't been able to source a 2007 replacement. My 2007 is the last of that body shape - and has the larger mirror than earlier models and has a built in indicator.

One supplier has a side mirror from a 2008 model (newer body shape). The 2008 version of the side mirror looks quite different (smaller indicator light and it has a puddle light), but I'm wondering if I can fit the 2008 version to my 2007 car? It will look a bit weird but so long as it's functional (the motor, heater and indicator work), I'll be happy.

Does anyone have any advice or experience in doing this?

Thanks very much

I think it is highly unlikely anyone has done this swap. It is likely you will have to be the guinea pig on this one. Maybe check if you can return it first if it does not fit. Wiring may be different and even the plug connector. You may be able to de-pin the 08 connector and fir the 07, but that also assumes the pins are the same.

Mounting bolt positions will also have to be checked.

It is unfortunate the 07 moved to the added functions in the final year making used parts harder to find. Not sure if an older XC mirror could be modified to add the additional lighting.

Good Luck!

Neil.

Thanks Neil.

Some additional issues I hadn't thought about.

Cheers

If you are talking about the p3 platform then the wiring appears to be very different.

Above is the diagram for the power mirrors for xc70

Below is p3 xc70

But it did show this

Which showed

It seems the pinouts differ on the connector.

So best case scenario the modules can communicate with very different wiring, worst case they are completely incompatible. Knowing volvo, i am leaning towards the second case for the newer stuff.

Wow, thanks very much for looking into that for me. Looks like the 2008 to 2007 swap idea is well and truly dead. Back to the wreckers and eBay.

Hi again - does anyone know if the side mirrors from 2007 XC70s and XC90s are interchangeable? Superficially they look the same and some people on eBay are selling mirror assemblies as if they are the same thing.

They actually might be. The links i posted do mention the xc90 in them. i would check deeper to see if connectors match and mounting holes.
