Lacking enthusiasm on the car front. The Toyota was supposed to be gone, but the buyer has ghosted me. Pissed me off as he had broken the sunroof and not mentioned it during the test drive. As he wanted the car 'urgently' I did not book it in for the sunroof repair but got a quote from a superb specialist shop and offered to pay for the repair as there was a 3 week wait to get the car in. Now he agreed the price then disappeared, which in turn delayed the booking of the repair by 2 more weeks. As Abscate would say, "what a wanker!"
Anyway, the V70 2.5T AWD is still not registered as no rush with the Toyota still here for another 2 weeks at least. I want to do a few smaller jobs before using it but with snow arriving the 00 R is going to the sleeping garage for the winter this weekend. Just waiting for the storage rims back from the tire shop. Also waiting for the new winter tires to be fitted the the V70 rims. Then the XC70 also need the winters fitted. Still have to find time to do the coolant and thermostat swap. I can see my wife taking over the V70 as she still likes the 06 XC70 she passed on to our son.
Got a call from a buddy. His 2nd oldest son's S60 2.5T AWD needs the winter tires fitted and an oil change. He has asked for help to learn how to do this himself. Oh, and can I just give the car a once over. Then he has bought his youngest son an 08 XC90. He wants my ex-Volvo mechanic buddy to give it a check over and advise what needs doing on it. My buddies new owners of the dealership where he works have got snippy about doing side work on the premises, so he has asked if we can do the inspection in my shop. That is planned for a weeks time and then he will do the timing belt, serp belt and water pump on the V70 AWD which are overdue.
Today I have to repair the ignition key for the V70 AWD. The flip key is broken. Fortunately I have a spare case. Just hope the transducer ship makes the swap without damage!
Neil.

That picture of the kitten and all that kibble all over, looks like me yesterday pouring out a cup of dog kibble from our container, only to find someone had not refitted the lid......................

And it starts...............
Today my ex-Volvo mechanic buddy turned up and brought with him the nice new winter tires for the V70 AWD. He kindly fitted them for me to the Thor rims I had been using for the R with old tires to stand on over the winter in the garage. I'd had those rims refinished in a nice pearl silver powder coat. They look great on the V70. I'll post pictures when I finally get the car outside. It is still not registered as the boss is very busy and has not got time to tag along to the vehicle registry office to register the car. Maybe Monday!
My buddy had mainly turned up to swap the timing belt and pulleys that he had not got to before handing the car over. I had bought a new Aisin water pump and some 25mm new bolts (still not sure why they don't include new bolts) just in case as we don't have the full history of the car so no idea if the water pump was done last time around in 2015. Glad we did! On removing the belt we found that the pump had leaked at some pint from the weep hole, but looks like a long time ago. My buddy said the car sat in the back lot at the dealership for 5-6 months so maybe the seal dried out and leaked before re-sealing? Anyway, the pump was the original with a 2005 date code so we decided it should be changed.
Still have the ignition key with the broken flip key mechanism to rebuild, but at least I know the transducer ship was swapped ok and it works still. Hopefully a job to finish tomorrow.
Our son who has an 06 XC70 did the moving of the car for me to line it up for the hoist. I asked him if he noticed any obvious differences. He said the seats are a lot more comfortable. I had thought about swapping a set of front 'sports' seats into his car, but the dealer service manager (former Volvo master tech) that you can't swap seats as they need programming to work on power seats. I'm still not sure what needs to be programmed? Could it just be the control board on the side of the seat? Could I just swap them over?

Today I went for the 3rd time to try to register the 'new' V70 AWD. Once again our Provincial authorities and stupidity prevented registration. We already have 2 registered in both out names on the same insurer's paperwork. Firstly in defense of the person in the registry office, the insurance document does only have my name on it. It always has, but my wife is a named driver. Same as the 2 other cars, which get re-registered every year with no issues automatically on line.
So why can't this one be done the same way? No idea. They insist my wife's name has to be on the insurance documents if the car is being registered in both out names..........but our 2 other cars are also registered in both our names. It is almost a scene from a Monty Python sketch. Even to get to that point I had to have another waver signed by my wife to allow me to complete the process without her being there. There is a form for that sir! Um, I could fill any crap on the form, how do you know she signed it??.......?
Get the form and fill it out and get it signed.
Can I check our existing plate is in both our names so we can use it. In the past we had plates that were not and we had to fill in documents to transfer rights to both of us. I can tell you it is in your name sir, but as your wife is not here, I cannot tell you if she is also on it (fortunately I know she is).
Getting to the point I understand why people do not insure their cars and steal other's plates to run around in their cars!
Now have to spend a couple of hours trying to get through to the insurance company. Ho-hum........
At least I got the ignition key fixed so the key blade flips again. So a small amount of forward progress.
Went to my local auto radio installers to look at a new Bluetooth head unit with hands free calling and Android carplay. The units are around $300 CDN on sale for a Pioneer or Sony unit, both with back-up camera hardwire connectivity. To get it installed it is a total of $1000 + CDN with the cost of the head unit included with a back up camera. That is worst case scenario as they are not sure on the Volvo electrical system until they get into the P2 as to how an aftermarket unit needs to be installed. Yikes.
Oh, and that only gets you a unit that you need to use a USB cable to allow you to use Carplay or Apple whatever. For double the head unit you can get head units that allow contactless connections. Wow, $300 for a wireless set up. Hmmm...........
Neil.

I may have to do that. I'm in no real rush, but the issue I have is my wife is so used to driving our son's XC70 with parking sensors, I'm worried that she forgets that the new car does not have them...................!
I don't drive the XC70 as I don't like the seats so I don't have any expectancy of sensors at least on the 'new' car!
The best news though is finally, yes finally, I have got the car registered and plated today after an seemingly endless amount of unnecessary errors and mis-information by the registry offices I visited (4 times in total), and the insurance company not having both names on the insurance documents. They then re-issued the insurance with both names, but then somehow got the car description changed in the process getting it wrong.
But now it is done, the car is already fitted with snow tires and is ready to go. Good timing as the XC70 has not got it's snow boots on yet and it started to snow today. Hopefully get that done tomorrow or Thursday and get the V70R oil changed and wheels swapped to the storage wheels and put away under covers in the 'old' garage for the winter.
