I was really close to buying a 2012 XC70 T6 with <100 miles and 1 owner. Car was mint, but once again, as soon as I sat on the driver's seat it was all over. I recalled driving one many years ago and don't recall the seats being as bad as the P2 XC70 flat planks. All done.

Same was with ex-our XC60: nobody liked the seats. Much worse than 2005+ P2, which themselves are worse than -2004 P2 seats.

For my nephew I just reconditioned a 2005 V70. It has 251k miles but that 2.4L with hydraulic lifters will last longer than a 2.5T engine. I dropped the sump, cleaned & repaired the clogged PCV, new water pump, TB, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, serpentine belt, spark plugs, rotors & pads......this thing now rides smooth. It's not AWD nor turbo but I would I pick a Volvo made in Sweden than one made in North America.

Our 06 V70 AWD has what I call the 'sports' seats with the more bucket type front seats, more like the R's have.

I do like the R-design seats. Those in the late P2 XC90's, the P3 XC60's and the SPA XC90's are truly fabulous and comfortable. In most cases, with the exception of the P2 XC90's the issue is the rest of the car around them. Up hear the P3 XC60's corrode badly on the front fenders where they fitted those stupid foam sound deadening devices behind the fender liners, and add to that the lack of cargo space. They drive well especially in the T6 versions though. SPA XC90's with R-design seats, all they have are the seats, the rest seems to be rubbish.

For me unfortunately, Volvo has lost their way and what they used to stand for.

I’m enjoying my 2005 p2 seats, the 2013 xc90 seats, and just sat in my first p3 2011 xc70 seat. I have managed to dump 10 pounds off a target of 25 from my under tall frame too, which is helping.

My T5 m56 seat is still my favourite

N/A 5 cylinders are known for driving mostly trouble free till the end of piston rings. They loose compression well past 400k miles.

The 2.5T of that gen uses the old engine which was bullet proof over my ownership from 240k km to 300k km.

After my 2001 V70 2.4T broke a valve, I ended up finding a 2006 S60 T5 stick shift. While my wife's 05 S60 2.5T AWD is nice, you sit on top of the seats, my T5, you sit down in the seats.
I had to get a new catalytic converter and because I don't have that center resonator, my car sounds awesome at cold start going up to 1500 rpm's, then 1000 rpms then low idle. Not like I feel like a kid again, more like a cool guy that tracks a car on weekends.
While my car has scuffs, scrapes and bumps as a car with 230k, it never changed from the stock appearance. Black interior with stainless steel trim. Its the fastest, best handling Volvo I've ever owned.
Today the 71 year old driver is going to the grocery store and WalMart for stuff. My goals are to drive this car until I hit 80. lol

Note, when it comes to repairs costing more than the cars worth, throw that out the window. My only plus side to spending a ton of money on stuff is driving a cool car at a senior age.

One more thing about my current dream car, it came with about 10 "Little Trees" scattered throughout the interior. After about a year and a half of ownership, the smell is about all gone. Those things are nasty! lol
