This is otherwise a neat little unit that fits in place of one of the license plate light units, but still has a light unit fitted:

I have the same camera in my XC. Got a few years back on Amazon. Your license plate will be half dark, and also the plastic lens is not very durable. I can't see a darn thing now.

May need to use noise suppressor for power line, some of them are sensitive to alternator noise.

Good to know. Hopefully it should work as planned as the guys sell them specifically for their RTI dash screen unit they have modified. The cable seems to have a bunch of additional wires which is where I am having a problem. All the options in the diagrams have I think 3 connections, but this cable system has about 6. I am more concerned as you connect this into the back up lights for power and signal, that it will affect the lamp bulb out issue. This car already has the LED headlights setting it off, and apparently if I plug the high level lamp in for the tailgate spoiler, it also sets it off, even when it is a Volvo part. Those issues have still to be addressed.

2001 V70 T5
My cam shaft seal replacement project has feature creep. I pulled all the plugs and regapped. Cylinder 4 and 5 had some oil in the plug wells. I also put my new phone borescope in several cylinders for inspection. I found carbon on the pistons and intake valves. Cylinder walls had very good cross hatch pattern at 220K miles.
Sway bar links will also be replaced.
The borescope is $25 Amazon purchase and attached to my retired Samsung S20 FE phone. This old phone is now the shop phone for work photos and borescope work. With WIFI it still can access internet without phone plan.
The camshaft work is now in reassemble phase. About 4 FCP orders and 5 new seals purchased for 3 holes (2 failed to install properly).

Kids 2002 S60 2.4t got new front brakes last night. 216k, friction material was completely gone on driver side outer pad, got our moneys worth. New $97 TRQ pads and rotors went on drama free with exception of the brake fluid puddle in the garage from pushing pistons full out to full in, should’ve extracted some fluid...

This car is pretty rough on the interior…exterior is okay…kind of wondering how long the mechanicals will keep going.

Replaced headlight bulb, and the bulb socket with the H7 ceramic-style socket. The old socket had completely broken and I was just left with spade terminals that appeared to be completely corroded and making bad contact, overheating likely. Weird it wasn't like that a couple of months ago when I last replaced them. Example (DON'T FORGET TO USE MVS AMAZON LINK) https://www.amazon.ca/uxcell-Ceramic-He ... B0097AAB62

Decision time on my kids 05 XC90. The issue list…
AC system will function with a charge but has a leak somewhere.
Front right wheel sensor issue causing ABS to be out (new sensor did not fix).
Rear liftgate won’t open from outside.
Alarm siren warning.
Needs tie rods (have those parts) then alignment.
Previous oil leaks fixed with AT-205 and Valvoline MaxLife.
Fob just quit functioning with immobilizer, runs with valet key.
Interior is getting rough.

At 214k miles I’m kinda done, losing the energy to keep it going. I think part of my frustration is my kid is in college 45 minutes away so I often don’t get extended periods of time to diagnose and fix these issues. It’s had a recent timing belt / water pump, suspension and brakes, and Haldex service so I’m pretty confident I could keep it running.

This week I’m gonna start shopping for a replacement car that’s a bit more reliable.

Biggest problem in your list is the wheel sensor. Likely a $10 tone ring or you could replace the full CV.

I feel you though. So many times over the years shaking my head saying why am I still driving this POS car. Yet here I remain.

Parts-wise, my 20 y.o. XC70 cost me like a small SUV or sedan on lease, or more. P2 Volvo was never known for outstanding reliability, plus they all are very old these days. But I better keep fixing it than driving a modern "car" that is a face slap for a driver, who actually enjoys driving a car.

This, and memories. End of June, standing at the top of an iceberg. The skies are grey, wind blows through your beard, beer fills your veins with courage and excitement. Which car brought you and your boat here? Volvo.

Fantastic pics. and yes it's the nostalgia keeping this car in the family...
Built-in booster seats
3rd row seat
Dent on the passenger rear door when I unloaded the massive 12 foot xmas tree myself one year

Family already out growing both but love the memories.

Problem solved today. Turns out the TRQ CV shafts are not tapped as deep as the originals. So when I torqued the bolts at the wheel hub they were bottoming out, allowing the shaft to slide back about 1 cm just far enough the sensor was not picking up the tone wheel. Ugh.

Interesting the CV shafts were put in 5000 miles ago and this just cropped up. Shorter 10.9 flanged bolts at my local farm supply store and it is sorted.
