Thankfully, our neighborhood is safe. We don't lock even while we are out on a 2 weeks long summer vacation trip. Just in case our friends walk by and would want to use our bathroom.

The only lock that is always locked is in the gun cabinet.

Well I blame BlackLab. That is what I told my wife anyway! :D

Due to cold temperatures, snow and ice, I have so far only gone to the junkyard once to find parts for my mechanic buddies poorly new purchase C30 T5. Naturally I found a couple of parts I thought worth keeping as spares now we have 2 x P2 AWD's ( 06 V70 AWD/XC70).

BlackLab called me having seen my post about folding rearview door mirrors. It was about -10C and he had gone to the PnP yard yesterday after seeing an 07 V70 had just arrived. 'It has folding mirrors and the center dash with the button on it', he says.

Unfortunately with it snowing and the boss needing driven mid-day to the airport, yesterday was a write off for junk-yarding. So this morning, I packed a few tools and and headed off being sure it was a waste of time as the 'professional' pickers strip anything they can from the Volvos in the yards, often on the day they arrive.

Today I was blessed and arrived at the car to find it covered in snow but the mirrors in place and that someone had tried to remove the center dash but failed by not being able to remove the gearshift cover. This prevents access to the 2 x T25 retaining screws for the center dash section. Ideally you need to be able to get the auto shift gear lever to D to allow enough room. I pulled the gearshift lever knob and that gave just enough room to remove the cover. The mirrors take about 10 mins max each to remove.

I took the whole center dash section including the heater controls and the HU-650 as it was only -10C (it was -25C last night). That makes the plastic brittle. On the 05- center dash it does not split like the 01-04 into 2 sections.

I laughed as my mechanic buddy texted me and asked if the car had a radio as his newly bought 06 XC70 HU-650 was dead. It was already bought and paid for!!

I don't blame your new pup for not moving from that toasty bed. Our dog Pepper, like many others up here just love the cold. She loves the cold weather being part husky and mastiff.

40 minutes west of Boston, we've got at least 20 inches, maybe more.

Same tires (Vredestein Pinza AT), different weight (1.8 vs 3 short tons).

I also forgot to disengage parking brakes in Sequoia :)
