v70 fuel filter issue
v70 fuel filter issue
Okay, the 2003 v70 is jacked up in my garage and I have a replacement fuel filter in my hand but.....where's the filter? Everyone has advised me that it is in front of the rear passenger side axel (not true!) This all started with a trouble code P0420.
Is it possible that it may be in the center of the car under one of two plastic covers? If so, how does one remove the covers? Good Grief

I believe that the fuel filter for your model might be in the fuel tank...kinda difficult to get to. Not 100% though.

The fuel filter is on the passenger side of the vehicle just in front of the fuel tank. Relieve fuel pressure first by removing the cap on the Schraeder valve in back of the filter and depress the valve stem. Depress the square button in the coupling in front of the filter and pull the filter off. When installing the new filter note the arrow stamped into the filter canister. It should point toward the front of the vehicle.

He's right on the ULEV no fuel filter deal, if your engine code is 39 or 64 the fuel filter is in the tank. You can check you vin for these #'s.
Thanks to everyone! I will have to check the vin for the ULVE (good grief), engine number. If thats the case, should I just wait on the filter or should I have it changed out? It has 88,000 miles on it and as far as I know its never been changed. It all started with trouble code P0420, I replaced almost everything and still getting the code. I was thinking that the fuel pressure might be an issue so I thought I should replace the fuel filter. Oh, yeah and while I'm thinking about it, please clean your O2 sensors first before replacing them.
I had the same issue on a wagon I had, the filter was in the tank. From what I gathered at the time this filter was not something you'd want to replace unless you had a problem such as the fuel pump and were in there anyway. Obviously you could replace it but it would be a pretty big task.
That's a catalyst code, check your exhaust manifold gaskets for leaks at the head or least before the cat.v70 dude wrote:Thanks to everyone! For reference
I also examined the parts diagrams and all of the V70's have a fuel filter except for those with emission codes A, T or V. Thes do not have an inline filter outside the tank.
All cars had the standard sock filter on the in tank fuel pump.
