Here's a short video showing how the hose works on your recharge kit.

This topic covers only fitting the hose onto the port stem. For what to do after that, there are any number of recharge topics here in the forum. Find the one for your Volvo with forum search. Please don't ask questions in this topic about what happens next.

It's a simple thing, but can be tricky to understand if you've never seen one before. Just lift the shroud, push onto the port stem, then let the shrould snap back and it'll lock onto the port.

The low port should have a black plastic captive cap (16,17,18mm or so) that says 6NM and may be finger tight. On my 2004 V70 the high side port also has the same 6NM cap, to confuse me.
  • Only attach this on the low port on 850/S70/V70/XC70/C70 up to model year 2000, and on V70 and XC70s from 2001 to 2007. I believe S80s are a high side system for recharges, according to owners on this Volvo forum.
  • Only attach a recharge kit or pressure gauge when the AC is on and the car is running.
Whatever Volvo you have, read your owners manual to find the correct port, and use eye protection. If you're unsure of anything, take it to a Volvo mechanic or get a "car guy" neighbor to help you.
