Faulty Instrument Panel 2003 V70

Post by sash66 »

Hi Guys,

The instrument panel on my '03 V70 kinda faulty, the gauges, message and dials are displayed for like 2 minutes when u start the car but goes out and does not come on at all....including fuel, temp, message center, odometer and speedometer. Just got the car few days ago..thought it was the fuse but checked it and all is fine.

A prompt response from you geniuses will be appreciated

New member, but I've been following on this forum past 5 years. It's been really helpful over the years
I've got a 2003 V70 base model (150K) and 1995 850 (172K)

Well, there are three initial possibilities. First, make sure you check ALL the possible fuses. Read the panel that covers the cabin fuse block carefully and make sure those fuses are good. Second, when the panel goes out try wiggling your ignition key. The ignition switch is not much improved in design from that of the 850s and it is possible that you have a bad contact in the switch. Finally, it is possible that you have a bad panel. There are a few threads out there on the Volvo forums saying that a junkyard panel may work with the possibility of showing the wrong total mileage and causing problems if a later software upgrade is required. Also in this situation, replacement is made using a panel from the same year and model. Anything else may not work. Also there is an outfit that can rebuild the panels for way less cost than a OEM replacement (www.bba-reman.com)

Good Luck,

Bill

2003 was a bad year for DIM's you're going to need a new one
A used one works, call erie
www.erievovo.com
New they're over $1400

(A DIM is the "driver's information module" ie: the entire dash pod)
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP
