v70 is immobalized
I tried to start my 2001 v70 and everything works except the engine and transmission. A signal came on the control panel that said immobalized. If anyone know anything please write back. David

This never happened to me before but I'm guessing your car's security system has been triggered. If you have a remote, check that the battery still has juice. If it does, disable the alarm system by pressing on the unlock button. Hope this works.

There is a chip in the key. A ring around the ignition lock accessible with the steering column covers removed is a magnetic pulser and an antenna. It pulses the chip and the chip sends a signal the antenna picks up. The signals are weak and easily muted by any resistance in the connection to the antenna. The connector needs to be unplugged and sprayed with WD40 or similar and then plugged and unplugged a few times to clean the connection. Lots of these antenna rings are replaced but the connections is the problem almost always. A new antenna ring will have clean terminals and fixes the problem too.
If you have multiple keys with the chip feature inside that can confuse the system. If your keys have changed just before the problem that could be a factor.
To get the car started, try tapping the grey trim around where key inserts that has O I II III printed on it. That may jiggle the connections enough to get you going.

I have issue with immobilizer activated on s40 standard shift. Car had died suddenly, tried starting several times having checked for fuel pressure, battery was fine, alternator was fine, but now immobilizer is preventing starter from cranking. What can cause immobilizer to be activated. Tried other key, replaced battery in key, charged battery to 13VDC, did the 5 lock unlock procedure, tried manual key in door and turned that 5 times, also kept it in unlock position for 30 seconds, anything and everything I could find on interweb I have tried. The alarm light sets properly when I lock with remote, turns on and off as would be normal. Checked all fuses with meter, swapped starter relay, it is a mystery why I can't shut off immobilizer. What modules can set this off, anyway to disable it?
Thanks,
Thanks,

Thanks, yes, took off connector today and cleaned with electronic cleaner, pushed on and off several times, not change. I am stumped on this one, could it be ignition, |I pulled it apart and sprayed with cleaner, or since standard shift, is there a clutch sensor somewhere, I assume by pedal, will check here next.

Pulled out CEM, cleaned all connectors, no difference, it will crank if I jump starter relay pins 87 to 30, but won't start, just cranks, so not starter. What else can keep this immobilizer set, crazy there is not a way to disable it, like disconnect battery for a length of time, any suggestions would be appreciated. I have two dead Volvo's in driveway.

Do you hear the fuel pump priming (whirring sound in the back of the car) when the key is turned?
Maybe also kick the transmission shifter, sometimes it may not stay properly in P. Maybe also replace the antenna ring with a used one.
If you find a fix, let us know

Poster stated S40 is a stick shift not an auto so no 'P' for trans. Otherwise you need to find a way to read the failure code and post back. Agree with trying another antenna ring. The transponder in P2 cars often fail at this age. They can be replaced but aftermarket transponder/key fob kits from Ebay, but can't recall what a P1 key is like. If the transponder is bad then once repaired they will need replaced.
