It was colder today, so I checked out the rear hatch for proper latching after yesterdays adjustment. It still failed to latch every time. So, I adjusted the latch plate out some more. It still would latch on the first catch, but not the second. A firm hand thump on the center bottom of the hatch would often engage the second catch.volvolugnut wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 5:15 pm I adjusted the latch catch plate for the rear hatch on my 2001 V70 T5. It had become hard to latch when it was cold. I think the wear on the latch and the hardening of the aging bumpers caused the problem. If this works, I have photos and will report on the process.

On closer inspection, the latch plate bar and the rubber bumpers move together. If the bumpers were getting hard, moving the latch plate would not change the latching.
Something else in happening here. Maybe a sticky mechanism? I will think about this and come back to the problem.
Any ideas?
