Given seven women in my house and 6.02E23 hair bands, how could I have not seen the utility of a rubber band!

Wish I had thought of this when I was splitting wood. The first time I see this technique it was one of them bury your head moments.

For some specific things I really prefer this style 2-jaw puller. I have removable conical ends for the screw.

So the oval collar piece around the center shaft holds the jaws in?

Exactly, especially useful on the crank timing pulley which has a domed/sloped inner face.

Nice.

Yesterday my P2 moved one of my kids back home from his apt, so that in a month and a half he can move again to U of I in Champaign. I feel so satisfied every time my good old Volvo wagon does really useful work.

Not today, but last Friday I replaced the top torque rod mount, the lower intercooler hose, and turbo outlet hose. I took it for a quick test drive to confirm that all was good. The following day my wife needed to run some errands and took that car. When she returned she commented about how smooth and quiet the car is now. Note that the old top torque rod mount was a poly bushing that is several years old and seemed like it was starting to harden. Also, the lower torque mount and the mount near the crank pulley are reasonably fresh. I seem to recall replacing the mount near the crank had made a noticeably improvement, but since I still had the poly up top there was still some vibration as expected. At any rate, it is nice to have a car that is almost as smooth and quiet as it was when it was new.

A fortnight late responding to MoVolvos:
Yes, I'm definitely in the "0W-40 is practically universal oil" camp.
It's just that I had open bottles of the Castrol 0W-30 and a few others to make my fill.

From what I read, the Castrol 0W-30 is on the thicker side of the "30 to 40" spectrum of in-service oil and that Mobil1 0W-40 European Formula is on the thinner side.
The Castrol was cited as being actually closer to 40 grade oil and the Mobil1 closer to a 30, again, whilst in service.
This jazz has nothing to do with them modrun 0W-20 engines.

To volvolugnut: I went to a garage sale in Haledon, NJ. There were 3 extra wide Snap-On chests full of pullers. It was amazing.
The family said Gramps had been a truck mechanic.
The darn things are so specific I decided to buy none of them.
