2002 T5 Throttle Plate Position Question, slightly open at rest ok? Yes!  Topic is solved

Post by vitamaltz » Wed Jan 18, 2017 6:49 pm

Hi everyone. I'm having the stumbling weird idle and low RPM issues that seem to usually be resolved by a cleaning of the ETM. I took the module off today and it was surprisingly clean. There was some light carbon on the bore that wiped off with a towel. There was, however, no ETM gasket so that might explain the issues. Before I install that gasket and reinstall, I have one question/concern. The resting position of the throttle plate does not sit perpendicularly in the bore; it's a bit diagonal and there's a little bit of visible gap between the far ends of the plate and the bore. Is this normal? Most of the ETM videos and photos I see online look like the plate closes a little more thoroughly.

Without the plate being open a tiny bit the engine won't idle. These cars don't have a throttle bypass valve to control the idle like the older ones did.
