Help with fuel line coupling on fuel rail

Post by bikerbob951 » Thu Mar 30, 2017 9:22 am

Hello all, I've been lurking for a while, and I've run into an issue. I'm performing the PCV system replacement on my 2006 XC70, and I'm having a great deal of difficulty with the attachment between the fuel rail and the fuel line. The style I appear to have is the one on the right in the below photo:

I've removed the outer clip with the T-15 screw, but I can't figure out how to separate the line from the rail! I see where people mention an A/C and fuel line removal tool, but it just doesn't look like that will work here. Am I missing something? I need to get this car back up and running ASAP, so any assistance is much appreciated!

Here's a photo of my car, in its natural habitat.

You need a special tool
2000 V70R Black, 144,000 miles Wife's R.
2007 V70 2.5T White/Oak 111,000 MILES. Polestar tune, IPD bars, rear spoiler, dark grey Thors, DWS 06, HU850, sub.

Reading elsewhere, I thought the special tool was required for the type of connector used prior to the ones shown above. But, as always, I recognize JRL's vastly greater experience that mine.

On my 2004, XC70 I have the Old Style one pictured above which according to IPD is prone to failure. When I looked at it for another reason a small piece came away in my hand so I think it may be sensible to change to the new style.

I did my PCV job two years ago and I disconnected it without any tools. I don't remember how exactly I did it but you have to take the top piece with screw out and then the fuel rail will disconnect. Just make sure you release the fuel pressure first.

Here is what VIDA says:

The new style, I removed one at a scrap yard like in the picture above: remove the screw, then lift the clip of the plastic part that keeps the screw (the clip is seen at the right) and slide this part off, then the line is disconnected. Just used my hands, easy to do.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Can confirm, I don't believe any special tools were needed, although I did use a fuel line decoupler. I haven't examined the clip, but I don't think the decoupler did anything really.

Recently done on my 2006 XC90 when doing the PCV. I struggled with it because I was afraid of breaking it then realised it all slid apart after the screw removal as per Oragex' post.
