2002 Volvo V70 non turbo p0068 code (Bad vacuum hose)

Post by Scotthmt »

I'm having an issue with the car, it's throwing the code p0068, which looks like the MAF or MAP, further research leads to the problem may be the ETM, unsure about that one.

Thing began acting odd when driving, such as, hitting a speed bump and the engine shutting off.

Now it has a rough idle and it throwing a check engine light and the p0068 code.

With the car idling, unplugging the maf seems to make things worse. Not sure if that is pertinent info or not.

I could take the shotgun approach and start throwing parts at it until something fixes the issue, although I'd prefer to save my hard earned bucks and inquire here first.

Has anyone had a similar issue or know how I could test the MAF or MAP to see if they are the cause? Resistance or ohm test possibly?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Your non-turbo car doesn't have MAP.

B5244S engine has a Magneti Marelli ETM, which breaks more frequently that Bosch counterparts. ETM can be tested with DiCE (scanner) and VIDA (software): it has a sweep test.

With the same DiCE and VIDA you can watch at what MAF is reporting and come with conclusion if it's right for engine speed and throttle position or not.

Hmm okay, thanks for the help, I'll try the maf first and if that doesn't fix it I'll look in to the ETM

Well a new maf didn't do much, perhaps marginally better but far from drivable, didn't drive it long enough for it to throw a code, when the gas pedal was stepped on there was a huge hesitation before rpms climbed.

Must be the ETM at this point, I will pursue further repair options.

Well pretty bummed out, sent the throttle body to xemodex, told them to test it to see if that was the issue and they said they'd run a test and if no faults found they'd charge me $75 plus the shipping, well apparently it had faults, so they sent it back fixed and the car still has the huge hesitation issue, have installed a new maf sensor as well. Is not throwing any codes, pretty bummed, may just have to dump the car as I can't keep putting money in to a car with 180k miles.

Well I figured it out, I wish someone would have pointed me in that direction earlier, but maybe this will help the next schmuck who has the issue, there's a vacuum line on the intake manifold, a few inches past the throttle body, it is connected to some sensor under the front upper radiator support frame, that hose cracked off at the intake manifold. Reconnected it and it ran perfect, so in the end, it was a $2 hose, that I spent $700 on.

Go through the rest of your hoses, remove, inspect, replace if they look cracked/funky/wonky.

Vacuum hose failures on these cars are probably the cause of 90% of poor running issues.
