2001 V70 NA VERY bad oil leak - turbo block off blank bolt  Topic is solved

Post by alanjackson » Sun May 28, 2017 10:09 am

Hello all, I have a 2001 V70 Non-turbo petrol car , and an oil leak.

It is a very big oil leak it can be seen dribbling off the back corner (between engine and bulkhead) nearest the front of the engine - (crank pully end)

It has coated the whole of the underside and BACK WINDOW with oil.

The odd thing is I have the timing cover off and it is very dry - bone dry - not a trace of oil.

I took the sump off but there was no sign of a leak from there, resealed it with expensive gloop and ir was still the same.

The whole of the engine is very dry eith just dry dust on it - except that back corner.

The oil cooler is not leaking and I have no turbo.

I suspect a camshaft seal or crank seal but would have expected some oil on the timing belt.

Any suggestions anyone? Thanks.

Check the other end of the cams... There's a seal at both ends... Mine popped out and it was a total disaster, cups of oil in minutes, till I pulled the crank angle sensor. Found the seal had popped and it was pouring oil.

Took me a week to find it. Since then... Not a drop!!

Good luck!!

plus 1, check cams seals. They can release a torrent of oil if one pops out.

Even though your car is non-turbo there is a machined hole for the turbocharger's oil return line.
This hole is capped and that cap can come off. I've seen pictures so it must be true.
There was a p/n for the cap in the post I read.
That's all I have. Kira

Sorry, only just seen your request for a photo. Unfortunaly I couldn't even see it because of the location, I don't think there is anything else near it and mine was easily turned with my fingers,
