My climate blower has been chirping on braking (when the cage is thrown forwards, the bearing is complaining - very light noise, like a quiet cricket)..
I thought I would throw a new one in there.

I'd be highly motivated to visit the Volvo boneyard.!abscate wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2018 11:19 am My climate blower has been chirping on braking (when the cage is thrown forwards, the bearing is complaining - very light noise, like a quiet cricket)..

I installed the TYC blower in my 2002 S80 Sep 2017 and it has been working great. Quiet. No chirping. Blower bearing from Volvo boneyard maybe iffy if it is old.

I even removed the faulty bearing which is a bushing type that sits unde the fan blade - it's this bearing that is under humidity and gets corroded and starts seizing. I cleaned it really well, lubbed and reinstalked. Two years later it started chirping again in v cold days.
There are plenty of used blowers on Ebay, many from dry or at least warm states (Florida?). Tip: look at the metal rod in the center of the fan blades, if it's not rusted from humidity it should be a safe purchase.

Hmmm, maybe buy the TYC and lube the original one as a backup. eBay would have to be real cheap, like $20 , to fight this option.
Car is laid up with fuel delivery problem right now so good time to deal with it,

Oil/grease sounds like a good idea at first glance on this type of bearing. However the problem is that fine dust sticks to the grease instead of falling or blowing away which transforms the lube into a dense sticky gum. So it's only a short term solution unless you enjoy taking the fan motor apart, cleaning and re-lubing it on a regular basis. Also, this type of bearing can get very hot which will break down most common multi purpose type lubricants.
If the armature isn't worn you can replace the bearing to make it like new...if you can find the right one/size.

I don't mind it but I can't stand the flak from SWMBO who will have to drive the BMW slush box as the clunker....So it's only a short term solution unless you enjoy taking the fan motor apart, cleaning and re-lubing it on a regular basis
