exterior door handle removal xc70 2005

Post by adrian22 »

I have a problem with my rear passenger door that will not open from outside-just from inside
I took the interior panel off and removed the lock assembly
The problem is that the metal rod connecting the exterior door handle to door lock is disconnected from the handle but still attached to the lock
It has an S shape at the handle end and I cannot fit it through the handle hole from the inside -too tight space-see picture of a different handle for example-my handle still on the door
Question is
Do I need to remove the exterior door handle to reconnect the rod? How I do that?
I could not find any videos or tutorials how to do this
If you know please direct me
Thanks

it is very tricky to remove the metal rod inside the door above the lock
at the lower side It has a spring like push in/out system
The problem is at the top of the rod like an U bend that detached from handle connector
Just bend it back and reinstall---no plastic piece needed
