Re-learn
Does anyone work for Volvo or have some knowledge on what they call a re-learn for your cars computer. I called them to get an idea of the cost and how long it would take. It irritates me and infuriates me when they say well it could be 5 dollars or 1000. That is just an exaggeration but you get my point. They also said that it might take multiple days?? I need someone on the inside an inside mole at Volvo or are they the only ones that can do this???

I don't know the 2008 management systems at all, but if they are talking about adaptation of the powertrain management I will eat my hat if the car doesn't do this automatically
Have you had it serviced recently?

Just got inspected but my garage will not pass it because the warning lights are not going off. The garage is 99% sure that the modules need to be updated and Volvo is giving me a non comittable answer on the cost and that does not fly with me??
What is Vida?? I guess I can google it.

Warning lights mean active error codes. Vida is Volvos workshop software and will tell you what they are and will let you reset them. There are other code readers that will do the same thing.

Not to be disrespectful or ugly about it all, but sometimes I think the best Volvo mechanics don't work for Volvo. There are some pretty sharp folks that hang out here but they will likely need some additional info, like:
What year is the car?
Is it turbo or non-turbo?
How many miles are on the car?
What codes are being generated? (Even if its from the little hand-held tool that the auto parts store guy uses)
Other that throwing fault codes, how does the car run?
That might get the collective juices flowing.

120,000 miles
not sure of the codes??
How would I go about this??
Car runs relatively well--some kind of whirling sound that seems to be steering fluid issue but the garage said that is ok
Also a squeking on the driver side about 2 feet behind driver door--sounds like two pieces of styrofoam rubbing together
