Hi all,
I am having intermittent soft knocking noise coming from the driver's side front suspension. No need to hit the bump to hear it.
The strut top mount had been replaced. All I was able to find during inspection was a broken rubber control arm right bushing. I can see the metal surface inside all pitted.Have 2 questions: can the new bushing be installed without replacing the entire arm and can the issue above be the reason of the noise?
Thanks so much.

Do you remember the brands used to replace the parts? Such knocking can be very difficult to point, could for example be from worn anti-roll bar bushings or plenty of other parts.
We usually don't replace just the bushing unless having a garage with a press and with the adapters needed - buy only the genuine bushing from the main dealer, most other brands won't last. Better to get a Lemforder control arm from online sites Ipd usa, Fcp, Eeuroparts

It could be as simple as a worn sway bar link. They're known to not last a real log time. The test for this problem is to disconnect the lower eye, strap the link out of the way of any moving parts, and drive the car to see if it's quiet. Or completely remove the link and test drive.

Hey fields.... you can replace bushing only if you know how to press them out and back in... I'm sure that your car's suspension is similar to my S 60. I priced out a lower A arm which was about 75$ without a ball joint which is absolutely stupid...my 98 XC 70 A arm has the ball joint built-in. Oragex is right they can be difficult to track down suspension noises... but having 2 people looking at one problem always helps.... rolling on MDK

Do the control arm, check the balljoint while you have it in hand.fields 100 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 13, 2018 10:53 am Hi all,
