LED Replacement Guide project - I need your input

The goal of this project is to provide a simple table with LED bulb replacements for any Volvo, information permitting.

• Volvo model,
• model year,
• lamp location,
• lamp numbers which they replace,
• CAN monitored,
• brand,
• product number,
• date,
• member's username

Those are the table columns, so far. I need your input on structuring this, and of course the bulb data itself.

This is a "messy" thread. Just write your thoughts, or hard data. A clean thread without discussion may follow, or I may just take the data from this. In either case, the result will be a VRD page that is outside the forum, similar to this.

This project, as large as it will be, would end up being a subset to QuirkySwede's outstanding, encyclopedic Volvo Bulb Guide and Cross-Reference.

I recently did a round of upgrades. Below you will find what i changed and links to amazon for what i have used. Hope this helps.

2016 Volvo XC60 T6 Platinum

Backup Lights: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0741 ... UTF8&psc=1 (They don't seem extremely bright from inside the car but rear backup camera shows the light goes about 40 feet behind and visibility is very good)

Dome Lights (front and back): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LC ... UTF8&psc=1 (these are very bright, white in color, but very bright)

Side Mirrors flood light: Same as above but i don't recommend these because the bulb sits sideways and there is not a lot of light, more than stock but and down facing LED would do a much better job.

Note: these are the only LED bulbs I am aware which have obtained DOT regulatory approval as retrofits for W5W exterior marker lamps. They employ an effective light diffuser + lumen/intensity isn't off the charts compared to the incandescent lamps they are meant to replace as is the case with so many other LED bulbs (that aren't DOT approved/street legal).

Thanks so much for posting this! Can you confirm whether or not those 1156 bulbs will work for brake lights? I purchased some bulbs, but even though they illuminate, they still generate the "Stop Lamp Failure" notification on my DIM (when it works )

Make sure you disconnect battery beforehand before unplugging the green connectors of the unit as you will get an SRS fault which you cannot clear with a cheapo OBD scanner (needs vida somehow)

2006 XC70
Low beam bulbs replaced with: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GKPR452

These have a fan and fit entirely within the lamp housing with the back covers installed. I chose the fan-based model to get some circulation within the lamp.

Surprisingly, no headlamp error for the most part. The error has appeared once: once shortly after install, on a long-ish road trip, about 60 miles into at 250 mile round-tripper. When the car was re-started, no further error. The rest of the driving has been 30-50 mile trips.

The included instruction manual notes to contact the manufacturer if there is a CANBUS warning, so they may even provide the parts for free.

I have a 2013 XC60 3.2L. I am trying to replace the brake lights with LED. It uses P21W (7506) size bulbs. I bought a pair off Amazon that fit great but still trip the dash error message as if the bulb is not working. Any idea where I can find a pair that have the CAN-bus chip built in so it doesn't generate the error?
