I install 1841 mm Volvo belt with one hand, and it is not hard at all. For Conti I had to lock the ratchet holding the tensioner in max position and use both hands.
I've only installed Volvo serpentine belts twice so with less experience just took more effort.

The Volvo 30731808 belt is no doubt a softer rubber material than the Contitech 30731808 belt.

Thanks all for the replies, will try again this evening. Replacement belt is a Duralast, which I guess is not a great replacement either.
Did you have any luck?
