One machine shop came back with $250.00 to install a new sleeve in cylinder #3.

Been entertaining the idea getting a B8444S from LKQ pick your part and dropping it in. S60R 4.4S :?: The 2004 S60R and the 2006 XC90 are both platform 2. It might be possible to swap the entire subframe. Upgrading the transmission to a six speed TF-80SC AWD in the process. I am estimating LKQ would want about $500.00 for the entire subframe. Thinking I could do it for under $1000.00 if it can be done.

I remember reading about a guy that did that in a P2 XC70 - swapped subframes & engines for a V8 XC70. I’ll see if I can find it. I think it was out of a V8 S80.

Now that would be an interesting project! I love these V8s, and in a car smaller than an XC90 it would feel awesome. It probably wouldn't be too hard, especially if you're keeping the TF80. Biggest issue would be sorting out engine management, which shouldn't be too hard... the Denso V8 ECU sits right on top of the air box, most of the wiring is right there in the engine bay, easy (relative term on these V8s) to access.

The B8444S has more power the the S60R B5254T4, 311 hp vs 300 hp. The 2004 S60R has a 5 speed AW50/51 and the engine is torque limited with the AW50/51. Eleven more hp, one more gear and unlimited torque. I think the setup would scream.

The B8444S if timing chain not timing belt.

If I could swipe the turbochargers off a Noble M600 and retrofit them ... scratch that I'm not going find a Noble M600 ripe for picking.

Yep, that’s the one.
I watched a Volvo FF video start to finish about a tech doing a re-engine on a T6 S80. They dropped the engine/trans out through the bottom of the car. I don’t know S80’s but I think there’s enough similar that you’d probably have to do the same with a V8.

The only way. A subframe cannot go up.
