When I rebuilt mine I replaced the pulley, voltage regulator, front and rear bearing and the commutator.
The alternators FPC ERURO sells are all listed as "remanufactured". What that actually means is anybody guess. I doubt if they use quality bearings though.
Years ago when I had a Honda alternator done at a local shop specializing in alternators and starter motors, the guy told me it was standard practice not to replace bearings. When I complained he said the original Honda bearings would outlast any replacement bearings he would be installing. So after that I decided I would be doing any rebuilding myself. By the way sellers do not use the tern rebuilt anymore, now everything is remanufactured. I doubt if there is much if any real difference besides the clean look.

Installed the brand new Bosch 160A alternator 36050266, a new INA tensioner, and new Volvo serpentine belt today.

With the alternator removed and the PS pump out of the way I was able to easily reach both of the tensioners bolts from above.

When I go to the fpceuro site, that part number(36050266) is listed as "quality remanufactured". Look under description. I have not seen any Bosche or Volvo alternators that are actually new despite what the general heading says.
I found an kit online with the commutator in it and I took the bearings to a local bearing shop and bought quality German bearings, I think they were SKF but I am not positive.

Just checked FCPEuro, mostly rebuilt.
Been there done that, alternator is one item I always go new bc when it fails, you are stranded.
Early models vs late models use different alternators.
Google "Bosch AL0820N"..."N" is new. This is the 140A.
The alternative is AL0756N, which is the 120A type. The 20A difference is for gadgets like heating seats/mirrors etc. etc.
If you truly want NEW and cannot find new 140A, the n new 120A is fine too, as long as you don't overuse the heating stuff too much.
Eeuroparts has the new 120A for $280:

There are legal requriements for remanufactured. Nobody in marketing is allowed to use the term haphazardly.
Remanufacturing is "The rebuilding of a product to specifications of the original manufactured product using a combination of reused, repaired and new parts".
In other words it needs to be as good as new.
Remanufactured makes more sense then new.
- 1. Lower cost to the end user.
2. Saves on finite resources.
3. Lowers carbon footprint.
4. Creates opportunities for small business which are the real job creators.

In eBay remanufactured means I pulled it out of a pick and pull , the dog licked it clean, and it's as good as new
