"This is a Maserati. One of the greatest.
Look at that front axle. It is gorgeous and slim and we are going to talk about it.
But first, we must discuss the brothers."
Alfieri Maserati
The 8CM from the early 30s. 260 hp and "good for nearly 6000 crankshaft rpm at a time when most road cars worked like a Ford Model A.
Winning at Monaco 1934 - look at those YOTS!
"Nostalgia” is rooted in ancient Greek—nostos algos. The pain of being unable to go home. Some cultures view the concept as poison, and it may be. I know more than a few people who seem determined to live in the past—theirs or someone else’s, real or imagined. We are so often blind to what we can accomplish, too focused on what we’ve already done. Worse, we often judge others through similar lens."

Yes. And like a WWII airplane, a thin sheet of alum(inium) between you and pretty certain death. He spent half his life trying to improve driver safety.

From Hagerty -
"In 1960, Zora Arkus-Duntov and American privateer Briggs Cunningham teamed up to enter Corvette in its first 24 Hours of Le Mans. For the model’s French coming out party, the team used three 1960 Corvettes with go-fast goodies including 283-cubic-inch Fuelies, heavy duty brakes, a beefier suspension, and limited-slip differentials. At the conclusion of 24 hours, one of the three had upset the field of Euro counterparts Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Porsche to win the GT class—and finish eighth overall."
"Corvette’s stellar rookie run at Le Mans would set the tone for future landmark performances at the iconic endurance race."

"By 1957, there was plenty of go behind the Corvette’s show. Check the right boxes, and you got a capable track car. This one, sold by Mecum in Kissimmee last January, has several of the hottest options, including a cold-air intake, heavy-duty brakes, and fuel-injection."
"...the reason the car survived its first decade—was Zora Arkus-Duntov. The engineer, himself a European import, joined GM in 1953 and almost immediately began stuffing Chevy’s Motorama car with mechanicals that made it capable of running with Mercedes and Jaguar. By the late 1950s, small-block V-8-powered Corvettes were fixtures at Daytona and Sebring. Factory-prepped first-generation Corvettes even won their class at LeMans in 1960."
