Finally, after several years of ownership, I removed the windshield stickers. Two PA inspection stickers from the PO and a carwash pass that I had put there.

Duly noted the 10,000 mile marker to ETM failure on Karla as the ETS light came on.

It’s been holding a throttle body internal error code for a year now.

Made some 3d printed repair pieces for the trim at the top of the trunk, as no amount of epoxy was going to save that crumbling 1998 plastic :?

I will upload it once tested in the car, before that I do need to drop the headliner to find that #!%°#? rattle that has been driving me insane for years now

Nice job! I love what you guys are able to do with the 3D printers these days. Now I have to persuade my daughter to do stuff for me with her new printer!!

Got a call from my brother in CO. His 850 has been having issues of dying and not restarting. Sounded like fuel pump relay. A jumper wire got it going after it was towed home by the AAA.

He then found and picked up 3 more Volvo relays from a guy in Denver who had had a bunch of 850's and was clearing out stuff.

Took them home, fitted one and the car started up. Today he took the car for a run and is stopped not long after almost in the same place as last time.

He had fitted on of the spare relays before leaving home. He had left the others in his car. He tried those and not one of them got the car going. It turns out his car has a weird 5 pin relay, not the 4 pin red one we all know and love. These are part numbers 9441029 or 9434013.

First one is pink in color with a green base and the 2nd one is yellow top and green base. No one lists these 2 part numbers. Looking on line a few turn up on EBay. I decided to fire up my garage laptop to check my stash as the color combo's threw a faint memory.

Turns out I had one of each part number with the 5 pins!!

What I think happened with the other 4 pin relays is that they just don't work with his car. What happened was using the jumper it pressurized the fuel system and the car ran until the pressure dropped too low. I'll ship my spares to him but they will likely take a week to get there from here.

Not sure why they need a different relay. Ideas?

Yes it is the car that went from here to CA about 10 years ago. I found a reference though that the relay may have only been used in US and Canada. I also found this thread on MVS:

viewtopic.php?t=18071

The OP was having the same difficulty that no on believed there was a different relay with 5 rather than 4 pins. I'm guessing that missing pin in this set up is a trigger pin for the pump to run.
