Also had a question, do all FWD transmissions have the mounting holes for the angle gear and AWD rear engine mount?

That rust is a bit scary! Yikes! That is why the R stays in the garage as soon as the snow flies and until the last snow has gone. This year looks like we will be lucky to get 5 months of road use if we are lucky. I was seriously thinking of selling the car, but surprisingly the 'boss' said she wanted to keep it as she liked it?? Oh, well.

Blackbart, that is what I am afraid of. That these skills will become a think of the past. With manufactures now coding so many parts to your car, parts are no longer swappable so junkyard runs will be a thing of the past. We will start as with some manufacturers (BMW) to have to pay rent on the cars we own to use them or they switch them off. Isn't that blackmail?

I will be interested to see how this alternator works out. I will have to ask him if he fixes Bosch stuff now I know he is a Denso authorized shop.

Neil.

Not too bad of a job with the right tools, robertDIY, and the numerous tutorials here.

20V DeWalt subcompact 1/2 drive impact wrench is probably one of biggest time-savers I've acquired. Also have a Harbor Freight Bauer 120v impact wrench, but there's many situations that it just doesn't fit.

The new Dewalt impacts are awesome. They've really stepped up their game recently. And this is coming from a Milwaukee fan boy!

I usethis one and it makes strut bolts, caliper bolts, lug bolts etc a breeze (that link should be an MVS amazon link but I'm not sure if they expire).
My dad has dewalt 18V tools, but now that the batteries are starting to die and aftermarket batteries let us down, I bought the official adapter to use the new 20v batteries. Now there's people selling adapters to use batteries across different tool platforms that share the same voltage.
For 12V, we have Milwaukee M12, which I prefer to the brands that use slide pack batteries. Long reach M12 ratchet has been great, but I killed a non-fuel hackzall and oscillating multi tool, and you can only buy the parts as whole assemblies that 3/4 the price of a new tool.

I have the 12v version of that DeWalt, and it's great. I kept it at home for a while, but I just picked up another Bauer brushless impact at Harbor Freight on sale, so I figured I'd bring the DeWalt to the shop so I'll get more use out of it. Plus I have some Mac 12v tools I got from my cousin, which are the same as the DeWalt platform.
I have a bunch of Milwaukee M12 stuff too, I love that platform. I have the Insider extended ratchet that I LOVE. And the high speed ratchet is a game changer, so much faster than any other cordless ratchet.

Nice work on that rack. That’s the easy way to deal with the steering coupler, from the inside. Volvo says new nut (bolt too?) when you recouple that, still available.

That coupler is no longer available so be careful moving it over

I plan to do an oil change soon and it has me wondering something

Would an engine oil flush work for the bottom channel of the PCV? It was clogged when I replaced the box and the lines, and the usual method seems to be oil pan removal. Would there be a chance that an oil flush can dissolve the blockage instead?

A flush chemical like BG EPR would work well to at least help break things down, but as I learned the other day, it's best to go ahead and drop the pan to manually clean things. If for nothing else, the o-rings are likely dried out and not sealing well.
This one is supposed to be round...
