Yes. Push button transmission control (Chrysler) and push button radio channel selector.

Why learn the auto trade when the jobs involve brake jobs, oil changes, and parts swapping/ software upgrades?

I had a shop tell me they couldn’t fix my T4 because the ABS sensor wasn’t available.

Turns out the harness in the brake pad wear and ABS were integrated, so you could buy the non integrated one and plug it in. $35 part vs$180 NLA.

Not confidence inspiring !

Push button car radios!

Pull the button out to preset a station, then push it all the way in. Feel that cable pulling the needle over when you push the button, very satisfying.

It really is scary how incapable of these things even dealer techs are. My cousin has worked with guys who graduated from UTI that are complete idiots. Either these schools really don’t teach you much, or they just didn’t get through to some people.

These are critical thinking skills you should pick up pretty quickly in this business!

Every group of workers from ditch diggers to rocket scientists will have a spread from worst to best. Organization trained mechanics have the same spread of skill levels.

Ehhh, not really. A true statement but misses point of why we have training and certification. And the obvious need for regulations in so many areas of society.

On one hand of course - this is no different from saying "no two people are the same." But on the other hand it doesn't excuse having poorly trained mechanics or rocket scientists etc.

The whole point of certifications is to set a minimum standard. The bottom of the spread of trained mechanics should still be competent. If UTI is graduating "complete idiot" mechanics, the problem is either with UTI or with the minimum standards, not with some unsolvable black box element of human nature. People who can't pass the training aren't trained and shouldn't be certified. This is why regulations (setting of minimum standards) are important - so everyone knows what we're getting.

And the spread is not the same for every group of workers. In some professions (ditch diggers) the work may be less precise and we can tolerate more spread than in others (rocket scientist, doctor). But in either case, you work to minimum standards or shouldn't get the job or should be fired. The idea is people do suitable work. I do agree there will always be *some* spread - no two people are the same.

I agree we should have standards so people can expect competent results. However, I everything I have work with and everyplace I have worked, there is the range from the barely competent to great.

Not too bad, but that's a really optimistic price. I probably couldn't even get that out of my V70R with 40k less miles. I wonder if he's on here?
Interesting that it has a cloth interior... not something you see often on turbo P80s.

And this is even more true... how do you get through a school like UTI, for example, and not be able to handle pretty basic problem solving? There's definitely a reason there is training, and that training should teach you how to handle these situations.
