My partner got fed up by the second Blaupunkt radio that had a failed volume knob in his Volvo V70 II (and was generally acting weird), so we decided to buy an original radio. Fortunately I found a stellar deal on a radio which even included the somewhat rare cupholder.

Annoyingly, the seller wrote something on the face of the radio (whyyyyy?!) and the knobs were rather... slimy.
Fortunately both issues could be solved with Orange cleaner (Liqui Moly 21467, really good stuff).

Unfortunately however, one of the plastic clips of the cupholder was broken, which means that it flopped around quite a bit.
This is how it's supposed to look like:

Simply gluing the cup holder to the metal bracket was not really an option because I don't think it would last very long. So I drew up a sketch in Fusion 360 of a repair solution. Making functional clips with 3D printing can be rather challenging and they often break easily, so that was not an option. Instead I made a two-part solution with a screw:

The lower part of the repair patch is glued in with some strong Pattex contact glue. Since I couldn't clamp it while the glue dried, a creative washer was utilized :D

Once the glue was dry, the repair patch was assembled and now everything is as strong as it was supposed to be :)

Usually it's not optimal to screw directly into the plastic, because it has a tendency to creep over time (even though ABS is not as susceptible to that as PLA), but it was all I had on hand right now and I wanted to get the repair done.

Unfortunately, the radio does not fully work. Both speakers on the right side don't work (the speakers are fine). It does not appear to be a configuration issue, since I reset the radio to factory default in the hidden menu and the "Fader/Bal" knob does not help either (but does that button actually influence right-left balance? The manual says it does, but in my S60 with the HU-603 it sounds like it just affects front-rear).

Oh well, I'll see if I can find another radio for cheap, so I can swap it again. Probably only the amplifier chip of the radio for the right side is broken, but I don't know if I want to dig into it to repair it...

My P2 afternoon yesterday -

My wife bopped in the door saying the car had quit on the way home, "All the dash lights came on!" Luckily not out in traffic, on a side street.
Great, I thought, here goes Mr Electrical Issues Expert (NOT) to figure it out.
Walked to the car, tried to start, stumbled and quit.
Wait, the miles on the ODO are suspiciously high....it was just out of gas, she never looked. We just had kids visiting, and everyone was driving it.
I dug out a plastic 2 gal gas jug, walked to my M-I-L's house and borrowed her little Civic, headed for gas.
I ran it through the car wash as a thank you, got out to fill it up and the plastic jug, shut the door...and it locked itself!!
Keys and phone locked inside. What kind of car locks itself when you step out?!
I said a few words. Walked to the neighboring laundromat, borrowed their phone, called my wife -
"Please get your mother's extra key, and have a niece or nephew drive it to me please. You can't call me back, I'm in a laundromat."
25 minutes went by in the rain, niece arrives with spare key. She's the best.
Carefully installed keys and phone in a pocket, filled it up, filled the jug, drove home and sloshed gas down the side of Volvo with the junky little jug.
Started right up, no lights, nothing to fix! Filled it up, reset ODO, distributed keys and cars to relatives.

All good. I'm just glad I didn't fall off a high Baltimore bridge.

Nice job, reminds me of that TikTok trend: “ I know what’s wrong with it…….ain’t got no gas in it!” At least your whole weekend didn’t get sidelined with troubleshooting car issues.

I was concerned Blackbart had had a few wobbly pops during the process:

Hope you be out of the woods for a bit. Wife and I both locked our keys while getting gas at Costco. Not at the same time thank God. Out comes the cones.
