MY2022 PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT:
The much-anticipated Model Year ’22 vehicles will soon arrive and have plenty of exciting news to cover across our line-up, and it starts with a bold new face.

XC60 Refresh
Our mid-size SUV, the XC60, gets quite the list of upgrades for MY22. To start, it will receive interior and exterior enhancements that include:
· Updated Front and Rear Fascia (Hidden Tailpipes)
· Updated Grill Design
· New Wheel Designs
· New Exterior Paint Colors

Our new Android based infotainment system with Google built is sure to impress all. It features Google Assistant with Natural Voice Recognition, Google Maps, and Google Play with a 4-Year Complimentary subscription included in the Digital Services Package. The intuitive next generation infotainment system offers customers unprecedented personalization and an unparalleled connectivity.

To round out the list of upgrades to the XC60, the T5 and T6 powertrains have been upgraded and are now the B5 and B6 due to the addition of the brand new mild-hybrid (MHEV) engine, which is discussed more below.

48V Mild-Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV)
With the addition of our new 48V mild hybrid battery, our 2022 XC60, S60, V90 Cross Country and S90 T5 and T6 powertrains are now the B5 and B6. With the mild hybrids we reduce tailpipe emissions by recovering energy from the brakes and restoring that energy otherwise lost back into our 48V battery, thus saving more fuel. In addition to the 48V mild hybrid, these carlines have an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) that gives an additional 13 horsepower separate from the 247 and 295 found on the B5 / B6 engines. And that 13 horsepower adds significant drivability enhancements and pick-up at low speed by using the readily available torque boost from the ISG.

The B6 engines receive a new Electric Supercharger, e-Charger, as a replacement to the prior mechanical supercharger. This change allows for significant noise and refinement improvements as well as further enhancements in engine response.
With the new 48V mild hybrid technology the gear shifter will move to the shift-by-wire technology as seen on our Recharge vehicles.

Google Automotive Services
Similar to our 2021 XC40 Recharge, the MY22 XC60, S90 and V90 Cross Country will now be powered by Googles Android based operating system. With integrated Google Automotive Services customers will have a 4-Year Complimentary subscription to Google Assistant with Natural voice, Google Maps, and Google Play included in the Digital Service Package.

Upon entering the vehicle, the driver display will have two new modes, Calm and Navi for a more progressive experience. In the refreshed center touchscreen display, the new infotainment system has significantly simplified menu set-up that is more user friendly.

Need assistance with features, directions, comfort settings or calling? Just say ‘Hey Google’ and your vehicle will do the rest.

Volvo Cars App Remote Services
Previously known as the ‘Volvo On Call’ app, all MY22 communications have been updated to ‘Volvo Cars’ app- the new name for our connected app featuring remote services. In recent weeks, existing Volvo Cars app users noticed a new user interface in the app. With the roll-out of the new app design some features and functionality are yet to be released, while these updates are being resolved we encourage all users to keep automatic app updates enabled to ensure they receive the latest features and improvements when available.

V60 and V90 wagons discontinued for 2022

On Thursday, Motor Trend reported Volvo will stop offering the special-order-only V90 wagon in the US. We contacted the automaker for confirmation, and sorry to say, it's true. But to add insult to injury, a Volvo spokesperson told us the smaller V60 wagon is getting the axe, too. Sad trombones all around.

It's not all bad news, though. "The wagons will live on in the Cross Country variant," Volvo's spokesperson said, and the high-performance V60 Polestar Engineered plug-in hybrid will stick around, as well. The models being discontinued are the front-wheel-drive V60 T5 and V90 T5 and the all-wheel-drive V90 T6.

"Aurobay will initially be jointly owned by Volvo Cars and Geely Holding and as part of the creation of Aurobay, Volvo Cars will transfer all assets in its wholly owned subsidiary Powertrain Engineering Sweden, including its Skövde, Sweden-based engine plant including the related R&D team, along with its engine plant in China and other relevant assets to the joint venture in coming months."
