Nokian tires

Post by borges »

The shop we use is trying to sell us Nokian tires, which I suppose are about as expensive as Mich's. Anyone know about these?

I just put 4 Kumho Powermax 769 last week in my Volvo 850 , excellent, ride improved more than 50%. I have not had god experience with Bridgestone Potenza , while I had good experience with Pirelli P6000, now trying with these Kumho.

I bought Nokian NRVi tyres for my V70. They are comfortable and quiet with good grip also in wet conditions. Perfect for the highway. I would say they are even better than Michelin.

We had falkens on our 850, worked out well, but were really expensive, I forget what we have now...

BEWARE OF COSTCO! they gave us 55 instead of 50, and the tires rub in the front... ugh...

Tires.com had a nice meter to show everything, noise, longevity, grip, etc, but I haven't bought tires from them.

On our previous 850 wagon I really liked the Bridgestone Turanza's...felt very smooth and drove in anything. Recently on a previously owned car (not volvo) I had the Kumho ASX that I really liked also due to smooth ride and driveability in all conditions including some snow. The Ecsta's had real problems in even a slight bit of snow...just my opinion.

Both of these tires are at the tirerack with great ratings and nice prices!

Yea that's common because 55's are more in stock than 50's it's not a mistake or a ploy. It's ok to put em on just watch your turn raidus.

I have Michelin Energies on both cars and love them. They last MUCH longer then the Falken Zies I had on mine. Great in the snow too, I don't run winter tires at all. I get them from a local tire guy and he will match anyone's price on any tire.

I used the Mich MXV4 as well and they got almost 50K miles on our S70 and just over 40K on our V70 before I needed to change them so I'm surprised at the comment that they wear out quickly. For the wear, they were superior but I didn't like how they handled in the wet and small amount of snow we get here a couple of times a year so I switched.

I went with Bridgestone Turanza LS-V on both cars and have been very pleased with performance, quiet ride, responsiveness as well as comfort, but approaching 30K miles on the V70, they don't have much tread life left on them. Interestingly, at almost 40K miles on the S70 they still have maybe 6 months of life left and I drive the S70 much more aggressively than my wife does her V70. Both cars weigh approximately the same, have the same 16" size rims and we keep the same tire pressure with both cars and rotate the tires the same amount of miles, but both the MXV4's and the Turanza's are wearing out faster on the V70. Anyway, sorry for the rant.

I'll be looking for another set in the near future. I might buy another set of Bridgestone's (don't think the Turanza LSV's are offered anymore) or if I'm convinced that other tires are better, I might go with something different. Of course, price is a factor, but not as much as longevity and ride quality.
