brakes

Post by shaner »

hello,

I just did the brakes on my 04 xc 70 cant get them to bleed correctly, or I cant get them to feel anything like they did before I changed them, I opened the bleeder valve while compressing the the caliper, the brakes work but just with allot of pedal, where as before they would hit right at the top, did I mess something up?

Were you just doing a brake pad job?

In that case you shouldn't have had to bleed the system as no air was introduced.

Now, it seems like there is air and the system will need to be bled. In order to do the entire system, you'll have to open the bleeder valves on the individual calipers while an assistant presses on the brake pedal. Don't do this until someone posts the correct bleeding order for the car, I'm not sure what order to do it for the xc70 or if there's a special way to do it. If you have the Haynes/Chilton manual it should tell you.

I agree, replacing the pads only does not require the bleeder valves to be opened. All you need to do is remove the master cylinder cap (open it) so when you compress piston back into caliper the fluid wont compress the air in it. Now you can either buy a bleeder ball from ipd which works great or use a person help you with bleeding the brakes.when your done it takes like 2 or 3 pumps on the pedal to get pedal height back.
