1997 850 T5 Alarm issue

Something strange started recently. My perimter lights will flash once every 3 minutes and the factory alarm resets itslef and you can hear the locks re-locking themselves. I have tried open and closing all doors, trunk, hood etc to no avail.........I am not sure where I should look next. Any help??

It sounds like you either have a failing alarm relay or a faulty door switch. Do the doors try to lock and unlock themselves while you are driving?

You can bypass the entire alarm system by removing Relay 210 / 211, it is located high on the firewall, inside the car, directly below where the fuse box is. After you remove the relay the car will not start until you add a jumper wire between the socket positions associated with pins 50E and 50F on the 210 side of the relay. If you decide to permanently disable the alarm Volvo sells a dummy 210 relay that has the jumper wire built into it.

Thanks Lee.......and no th elocks do not try to lock themselves while driving. So could it be the alarm relay.....the same one you mentioned 210/211?

That is the one, be prepared for some major contortionism while trying to deal with it.

No probs.......thanks for the tip.......is that relay a special one or can it be substituted for another temporarily till I can get a new one?

That relay is specific to the slot, there really is not other relay that will fit into the socket.

They are more than just a standard relay, they have solid state devices in them with timing components to make it all work.

I don't think so, If I am not mistaken they went to the chipped keys and changed the entire immobilizer system on the V / S series. If you do have relay 210 / 211 the dummy relay for 210 shows in VADIS as pn 3345333.
