interior rain leak on passengers side below dash

Post by wooded »

Hello, I have A 2002 v70xc, that leaks badly (pours) when it rains on the top of passengers toes in the front inside (below dash). there is no drain on that side for the sunroof. I removed the a pillar. tell me where or what to search for to find potential inlet ares. I have done searches with all the terms i can think of. thanks

Usually this means the sunroof drains are clogged
(Water backs up and runs into the interior)

i have removed the engine cowl, and insured those drains were clear, checked the sunroof drains-clear. i found the passengers side sunroof drain gromet below the soaked carpet. as point of info the sunroof drain line is in the a pilar not next to it and is not accesable by removing the a pilar cover. the only questionable was the seal on the under side of the engine cowl on passengers side that could potentialy allow water to drop in the heat/cold blower. sealed , but no rust or witnes water?! i had the windsheild checked and it seems fine. no clue.

In reference to the mystery leak. I took the dash apart, glove box and interior carpet. during rain, i could see the water dripping inside on the heater fan flange! I removed the fan(inside) and checked that the drain was clear. I removed the exterior cowl and corresponding moldings. i replaced all seals except the lower windshield trim molding ( the cowl slides into it. water still came in. second time removed i removed the lower trim molding and found someone had cut the underside edge to clear the excess rubberized windshield seat glue on that side, right where it was coming in. The new trim molding grabs the window tightly, I expect it has a life depending on number of windshield replacements. I hope i have it licked.
